Starting a new fitness journey

I just turned 50 this past May. I used be in top shape in my 20s & 30s. But in my 40s, marriage, work, travel, stress, kids, and lack of motivation all took a toll on my body. I'm 40 lbs overweight. My will to work out consistently is not as strong as it used to be.

This year, I want to change this cycle of starting strong, then falling off the program. I want to start AND STAY on a fitness journey. I'm under no illusion that I can get back into the shape I was in at my peak. I just want to lose excess weight, increase my stamina and flexibility, and lower my cholesterol.

Wish me luck.

Thanks

I do wish you luck, but insight and consistency are probably more important tools in the toolbox!

I didn't even start getting routinely active until my mid 40s, and still stayed fat until age 59. At that point, I lost 50+ pounds in a bit less than a year, and have been at a healthy weight for 5+ years since, now age 65.

I believe you can accomplish your goals, because I think they're realistic. You may even surprise yourself at the shape you can get into: Our culture(s) can treat age as a disability, way before it needs to be anything like that. Don't let low expectations - yours or anyone else's - limit the possibilities.

    Wishing you success!

I’m kind of in the same boat. I’m 30 but I used to be fit too and have been off the wagon for the past 3 years or so. I’m now pre-diabetic and really need to get my act together, and would like to lose about 40 lbs too. Feel free to add me as a friend here if you’d like support here

I’m 59. I was obese less than three years ago. I’m now on the low side of normal BMI, and very active.

Age and starting condition are not a straitjacket.

Attitude and lack of focus are.
