So, I work in a small office in Chicago (satelite for a larger office in Wisconsin), and lunch is bought for us pretty frequently (like once a month at least). Of course, being that we live in Chicago (and my co-workers have no sense of nutrition or good eating habits) everyone LOVES pizza... :grumble: Plus it's the easiest to buy for groups.

SOOOOOOOOOOOO my co-worker and I have been working toward our fitness/weight goals together using MFP (I've lost 20 lbs - she has lost 36 lbs!) I finally went to my boss today when it was announced our VP who is visiting the office today would be buying us all lunch (and big surprise the menu is pizza) and asked if he would reimburse me if I went to Subway and picked up subs for my co-worker and myself since the rest of the office has no regard for their health :noway:

He said that would be fine (after a little finageling on my part about expensing and budgets blah blah)... I am so happy!!! It's a little thing, but it's a big deal to us! We should'nt lose out on the benefits of our successes (getting lunch bought for us) just because we are conscious about what we eat... and I looked, ONE SLICE of the pizza they are getting is like 450 calories... ONE SLICE! :noway:

Happy Tuesday MFP! :drinker:

Great one! I agree, you shouldn't miss the perks just b/c you are trying to be responsible in your choices!!

Awesome! That is especially great that you have a partner in your coworker. That makes it a lot easier to stick to making healthy choices, I bet. My coworkers couldn't care less about their health... I am constantly asked to fill up the candy jar...

Anyway, great job! And congrats to both of you on your losses thus far!

woo hoo! Kudos to you for sticking up for the both of you and getting what was obviously a healthier lunch. I think I'd do just the same in a scenario such as that. Enjoy the rest of your day!!

Way to stick up for the healthy eaters! I think that more companies should support a healthy lifestyle as it benefits them when it comes to health insurance, sick leave, ability to work and longevity in the workplace. The school where I used to work kept an exercise log on the refrigerator. You could log your exercise minutes each day for a month. At the end of that month those who averaged 3 work out days or a minimum amount of workout hours received a free healthy lunch or fruit smoothie.

that fridge thing is a great idea! we have physicals conducted in our office every october by a health center nurse, and your scores on those "tests" determine if you pay the low premium for your health insurance or the high premium.... evidently no one in my office gives a damn about having to pay almost twice as much every two weeks for their health insurance! well, I DO!

I know what you mean - I used to work in an office where we got pizza at least once a week. No alternatives. If you didn't want pizza then you usually had to leave the office just as it arrived and take your lunch break elsewhere. Up to a third of the office 'escaped' during the pizza frenzy.

Great going to get a healthier alternative!
