The Truth

You can't handle the truth.....or can you?
When looking at your food diary do you want your friends to be honest with you about your day or would you rather they say nothing at all? We all have our bad days and sometimes we induldge. However, don't tell me "Great Job" if I've met my calorie/carb goal, but only ate Snickers and Ice Cream all day! And vice versa, if I go over my calories by 100 or so but ate lots of fruits, veggies and protien - then a "Good Job" is warranted. I know the old adage is " if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all". But, aren't we here to help one another? I think there is a polite way to tell people that they had an off day. No need to be rude "Why in the world would you eat like *kitten*?" That is not necessary, but a boost of confidence to help them get back on track may be what is needed. However, some people are sensitive and maybe can't handle it - but I am here to support my fellow MFP friends and I will not say "Good Job" if you've eaten a full day of junk.

I just want to lose some weight and find a healthy way of living to stay on rather than diet gain diet gain game that everyone talks about0

hmmmm, well I think that if you have many friends it is kind of unlikely that you are actually going to really look at their diary when they publish it every night. I see that people are under their calories and I will sometimes say "good job" without looking too closely. I don't mean "good job" for eating a snickers bar and a Pepsi, lol. Maybe I mean "good job" for being open and honest about what you ate?
I honestly think if people picked apart my diary every day I would make it private. Or knowing myself I might fudge it. So having people support me even when I didnt eat any veggies, or had a massive carb overload... well that is a good thing. I have nothing to hide and I am glad that I don't have friends who make me feel like I do.0 -

This is a good point.
The tracking & accountability are SO IMPORTANT! Good job to everyone who sticks with it!0 -

I understand that, but if one takes the time to open a friends diary they should note if they ate a bunch of junk or a balanced day. I will admit I do not open all friends diary's nor do I comment every day on all friends diary - but if/when I do I look to see what they ate. Not only to see if *they* are on track, but also get some ideas of good yummy foods to add to my diet. I know I don't eat the best every day, but if you happen to see a bunch of junk there are nice ways to say something. I recently had a friend comment "Good job sneaking in those french fries" Not the best diet choice, but very much a weakness of mine. So while it wasn't the best food, I did manage to have a decent day around my french fries. And she made me aware of it. KWIM But you have a valid point that being accountable is very important and if we nit pick everything people will hide their diary. But at the same time, being vulnerable may help us stay on track.0
