Of course nobody knows our state's secret..... it's a 'secret'.
..... and we ain't tellin' nobody.8 -
I'm new to the Tampa area & live 8 steps from the Tarpon Springs canal. Turns out that it's a breeding ground for alligators & we also have crocodiles in SoFL... honestly, I thought the latter weren't in America. I've seen 1 croc taken out of the canal via crane a few mos ago & relocated to Alligator Alley... 200-mi S.
Recently, I've seen 4 alligators in 1 day, nonchalantly floating down the canal... the largest had to be at least 20-ft long... 3 "teens" cruising in a line on the other side, all 10-ft long (the little ones)... occasionally one will grab a pelican or other large bird out of the water, there will be a 30-45 second, intense swirl of circular movement as it drowns said bird, like in a thriller & then... nothing. (In fact, as I wrote this, I saw the 2nd pelican snatched out of the water by said gator).
I spoke to my rental office... they said there are 7M alligators in SoFL. Surely they meant 7K... nope, 7M. I live 4-hrs from Alligator Alley (Hwy 75 from Naples to Ft. Lauderdale)... I was mistaken in thinking they were only along that strip of land... as if they obey hwy signs. < Insert eye roll >
I've been gone from MFP for many, many months, due to traveling, relocation a number of times, etc... glad to return & nice to see Motorsheen again... I happily await your snarky retorts.
So, secret that there are 7M gators in FL? Yep. I'll be moving in Nov... not due to the gators, daily cruising outside my window... but, I won't miss them, along with the giant, hissing creatures they call Palmetto bugs (yeah, lovely name for roaches)... the humidity is on par with staring down a gator... seriously.4 -
That it actually *does* rain here?0

For example, in Colorado we have Sand Dunes. They like what you see on tv in Egypt.
Great Sand Dunes is a National Park though...IDK, maybe I'm just a National Park junkie, but it's pretty famous.
For NM I'd say Blue Hole in Santa Rosa. A small body of water that is always a crystal clear sapphire blue in the middle of the desert. Below the water is a cave system that was largely unexplored until 2013. This cave system connects Blue Hole to six other small lakes. Depth of Blue Hole is 81ft.

people used to live here.
the population was between 3 to 5 & they had a dog. (seasonal residents I suppose.)
they've all since moved somewhere else..... so it goes.
