Is anyone doing the" Dukan Diet"

I have a friend that says her cousin lost a ton of weight on this diet, so she is going to try it. I was thinking of giving it a go also, but thought I would ask any of you if you have tried it and what you thought of it?

    I just heard about it on here yesterday, checked it out, and I think it is unsustainable and unhealthy. I look at your success in your signature line & wonder why you would consider it. Oh - those are your goals - not progress so far. LOL.
  • It's a bit like Atkins but without dairy I think. I prefer my lovely Atkins! :)

    My mom did it at age 53 and lost 40lbs in about 3-4 months and is lower than her goal weight. It's been 7 months and she hasn't had any weight gain back.

    She seems very happy and eats healthy. She never has to turn down going to eat pizza or anything with us since she has two celebration meals a week.

    I think if you want to lose it bad enough and for the right reasons; you will regardless of how you go about it. Good luck!

  • i am doing the dukan diet, its high protein, low carb but its different to atkins in that its low fat. you can have dairy too. i am having great success so far. look at www.thedukandietsite.com that will give you some more information and recipies. i was skeptical at first but so glad i started it. there is also a few threads on here from people who are folowing it, just type 'dukan' in the search box and you will be able to get more opinions. im a big fan so far.

    I have been following the Dukan Diet for about 2 1/2 months and have lost about 30 pounds. I feel really good and feel it is a much healthier plan than many other eating plans I have followed. There are a lot of healthy vegetables that I eat every other day and though it is high protein plan, it is low fat. I have dairy daily as long as it is fat free. I don't feel cheated when I pass up my favorite foods and I don't get hungry if I follow the plan. I have lost my physical cravings for sweets and can deal strongly with any emotional temptations. The phases that follow make a lot of sense in preparation for permanent maintenance. Exercise in important part of the plan, too. Dr. Dukan addresses a lot of different issues, different than I've seen anywhere. I am 63 years old and have been overweight for at least the last 25 years. To have something that works this well for this long is truly a blessing. I am sold.

    this isnt a quick fix. if u are aware of the dukan diet u can see that although you lose the weight quickly, the whole process can take a year, in which you 'stabilize' your goal weight while eating foods you enjoy and using the new eating habits to stay healthy and maintain the weight loss.
  • I tried it for about 6 days, just eating protien in phase 1 made my stomach hurt by day 5 :( It can get expensive when your mostly eating lean meats, eggs and some dairy ( cottage cheese and certain yougurts) so keep that in mind if you decide to do it. Phase 2 you can have most veggies ( no high carb ones) with your lean meats but you stay in phase 2 until you reach your goal weight and depending on how much you need to lose that could be several months ( would have been 4 for me). You don't get to add back fruit or grains until phase 3. You have to decide if thats something you can do. It wasn't for me but I learned a few things reading the book and I will add them to my more balanced eating plan.

    yes, if u like meat then its easier, however the first phase is max 10 days depending on hw much u have to lose- i need to lose 40lbs so did the first and hardest phase for 7 days. u are allowed oat bran each day from the very beginning- i make muffins and pancakes with it so its less restrictive.
