Who else has a lot to lose?

I’d love to start an accountability thread for those of us who have a lot of weight to lose. I won’t assign a number to what that means—just jump in if you feel like this is you, and you’d like some support! I plan to update this thread regularly with how things are going for me, and I’d love to cheer others on as well.
Personally, I’m starting small with the hope that it will help this be a sustainable change for me. I’m currently just tracking calories with the goal of losing about 1 pound a week, and I’m trying to increase my general fiber and protein intake. I’ll gradually add in other efforts as I get the hang of this.
My General Stats
Age: 31
Height: 5 ft. 8 in.
Starting date: June 8, 2021
Starting weight: 268.6 lbs.
Current weight: 265.4 (3.2 lbs. down)
Goal weight: 160
Starting BMI: 40.8 - Class 3 Obesity
Current BMI: 40.3
Goal BMI: < 25
Current daily calorie limit: 1970 calories
Current dietary and exercise goals: maintain a calorie deficit, increase overall fiber and protein intake
Feel free to share your stats below!

I’m not really into the whole sharing stats thing. But I am down 30lbs with another 63 to go.11

That’s great progress, wow!

Hi! I also have a lot to lose. I am 42, 5’5”, and started May 31st at 341.8 lbs. WOW. Heaviest I’ve been in my life. It was an eye opener to get me back to MFP. I’m determined this time (although I have been before, so we’ll see). I weigh on Fridays, and yesterday’s weigh in was 333.4. Progress, slowly but surely.18

Welcome.. sounds like you have a solid plan. I woke up one day inspired and I haven't looked back. Goal is to lose 125 pounds and I'm creeping closer to the half way point every day.
I mostly walk for exercise and have recently adjusted my target to 1.5 lbs/week as I seem to lose more than MFP projects even though I do diligently eat back my exercise calories.
At my 16 week mark I did my first controlled diet break eating at maintenance with good success and intend to do it after the next 16 weeks of dieting.
Good luck with your journey!15 -
@ashleycarole86 I’m considering doing the same during vacation. Almost nervous that I’ll get caught up in the sugar cravings again but think it’s a better approach than just winging it.2

Hey, I have quite a bit to loose too. I was doing pretty good since Feb at appox. 1.82 lbs a week, but these last 6 weeks the scale has not budged. I plan all my meals and watch my macros. I have been increasing my protein. I walk everyday 30 min. and have on avg. logged 8-10K steps daily. I don't know if I should adjust my total daily calorie intake down. I just want to see the progress happening again so perhaps by next spring I will be at my goal weight.3

Hi! I’m so glad I found this group! I have around 150 pounds to lose, so I need all the accountability partners I can get. 🙂
Age: 42
Height: 5’5” (with shoes on…lol)
Starting date: 6/17/21
Starting weight: 308.4
Current weight: 308.4
Goal weight: 155
I used to be addicted to aerobics, but it’s been a long time since I’ve done that so I’m starting slow. My goal is to do some kind of aerobic exercise every day, for just 15 minutes, and work my way up from there. I’ve also been trying to do more things here and there for extra movement, like sweeping the leaves off my sidewalk every other day, and walking around my apartment complex, picking up any trash I see. I didn’t put this weight on overnight, so I know it won’t come off that fast either.
My husband and I are also planning to move back to the area where we met in the not-too-distant future, and it’s a much safer place for walking and biking. We also have lots of friends there, so I’ll finally have a social life again! Lol9 -
I. Am. Here. For. This! I've been in & out of mfp for years, but at 278lbs, it's time to get down & dirty to get rid of excess weight & anything else holding me back from the kind of life I want to live. I can stand to lose half of me *mother of God* and I'd love buddies who are just as serious as I am. Feel free to add. The grind starts tomorrow 💪11

Welcome, everyone! How are you all doing?
I’m officially 5 pounds down! I’ve continued to stay under my calorie limit every day, although I’m still not always hitting my fiber and protein goals. But hey, it’s about improvement, not perfection. I think I’ll start trying to get more steps in gradually starting tomorrow.8 -
I’m new to this. I’ve been battling my weight for years now. I’m 5’0 280 lbs I believe, I haven’t weighed myself in over a month. This is the heaviest I’ve ever been and I also hate saying that out loud. I’ve always tried to lose weight for other people before and I always end up gaining more but this time I’m doing it for myself! I also don’t know how to use this app very well to stay connected but I’m very happy to find this group!10

@wornoutmamabear way to go! Things are going well here. I am averaging over 2 pounds week on average for now but expect this will slow down shortly. I just got a bicycle and went out this evening for a very short ride.. my quads sure felt it.
@justcandi12 welcome and glad to hear you've made the choice to do it for yourself! This app has been a total lifesaver for me.7 -
Thank you, @ashleycarole86! I look forward to it. 🙌🏻💪🏻3
-
@wornoutmamabear Yes! You rock 💪
@justcandi12 Welcome aboard! 🚂
So yesterday I signed up for a hospital gym that's open to the public. Today I had the best experience designing a plan for me & running through it. They were so nice, thorough & supportive! Tomorrow I run through the routine fully with staff assistance & I'm actually really looking forward to it! (who is this person?! 😅)7 -
At the start of the year, I decided I would make the effort to lose 90 lbs and get back into the shape I was in 6 years ago when I met my boyfriend.
65 more to go. 🥵
More importantly, I decided to make lifestyle choices that I hope to carry forward to become a healthy, better me - including cutting back and eventually eliminating alcohol. I quit smoking in 2019 so I’m confident that I can do this… one day at a time! 💪10 -
@ashleycarole86 - That’s awesome! I wish I had somewhere to go biking. I lost so much weight about 10 years ago when I was biking back and forth to work. 🙂
@kellibee2000 - I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself! That will make it so much easier to stick to.
@justcandi12 - Welcome! You’re going to do great!!3 -
@lketty - Congratulations on being able to quit smoking! 🙂👏🏼 Friends of mine have said that’s the hardest habit to give up, so hopefully eliminating alcohol will come even easier.3

@LindsayMaria78
Thanks! To be honest, it was a walk in the park compared to adjusting my eating habits, for me. I enjoy eating so much. Why are unhealthy things so delicious? 🥺
Anyway, thank you for the support

Hi there! My name is Heather. I’m 42, single, and live in Alberta, Canada. I started losing weight about a year ago, starting at 440 lbs. I’m 5’9”. I lost almost 80 pounds in 6 months, but I started plateauing in November 2020, and now the scale is creeping up!!!!! I’ve gained 20 pounds since early winter, and I’m now at 380. Le sigh. I have to be careful weighing myself, I have a slight eating disorder, and weighing myself regularly can result in things like not eating at all.
Anyways, I’m really struggling. The scale creeping up scares me, but I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself as its counter productive for me. Accountability is helpful, and for me, not related to the scale. Accountability for things like water goals, activity goals, healthy snacks etc.
If it’s cool to be part of this group even though I only weigh in around once a month, I’d love to increase my MFP friend/support network!10 -
@heatherbluebell I’ve been on here one day and already like the support from these ladies! You are not alone!6
-
I love seeing everyone’s updates! Also, anyone can feel free to add me if you’d like!
Is anyone else trying to increase their steps throughout the day? Apparently I’m more sedentary than I realized, and I really want to find ways to work in more walking here and there.
@heatherbluebell I can relate! I’ve struggled with disordered eating. I’m hopeful that I won’t fall into old habits because I’m managing my mental health much better now, but EDs are insidious. We’re here for whatever support you need!5 -
I’m a big data geek, so here are my updated stats and goals!
Age: 31
Height: 5 ft. 8 in.
Starting date: June 8, 2021
Starting weight: 268.6 lbs.
Current weight: 262.4 (6.2 lbs. down)
Goal weight: 160
Starting BMI: 40.8 - Class 3 Obesity
Current BMI: 39.9 - Class 2 Obesity
Goal BMI: < 25
Current daily calorie limit: 1940 calories
Current dietary and exercise goals: maintain a calorie deficit, increase overall fiber and protein intake, get at least 2k steps a day
Other goals: be able to wear my wedding and engagement rings again, be small enough to ride my favorite roller coasters, feel comfortable wearing jeans again, reduce my belly size enough to minimize chafing on my c-section surgery scar6 -
Hi @heatherbluebell, welcome!
@wornoutmamabear Yes! My job is sedentary, & if I make an effort to stand up, stretch a bit & walk around my office for just a few mins, how much those steps add up & how much better I feel at the end of the day.
So, I was really nervous to do my first full run through of the workout the gym designed. It's 30min cardio machines, 30 lifting. I can't believe I got through it, felt like I got a great workout, but didn't feel like I was super sore, or going to die! I'm very thankful to the staff who took their sweet time with me so I could feel confident working the equipment correctly & use good form. I'll be doing cardio tomorrow, then the full workout again Sat. On Friday I'm home with me kiddos, so I'll go something physical with them so I can sweat & they can have fun too.
Here are my stats for the curious:
Age 37
5'5"
Hw 278
Cw 276.8
Goal: Keep up with my family during a full day of siteseeing.
Short term goal: do full workout 3 days per week, 30 min cardio 2 days per week for 6 weeks.3 -
Me! I need to lose around 8st but can't seem to shift any although the tape measure is showing great results! I need to do loads of exercise to shift the weight so building that up!3
-
How’s everyone doing?
My weight loss has steadied out a bit, but I still lost about a pound in the last week. Also, I’ve lost 2 inches off my hips and 3 inches off my waist since I started tracking earlier this month!2 -
Things are going well here, thanks for asking! I am within a few pounds away now of hitting my 50% milestone... losing 62.5 lbs of my 125 lbs overall goal!
This feels very motivating to me so I'm just trying to get there and then I think I'll be reducing my deficit a bit to slow down my rate of loss for the second half.5 -
I've got over 100lbs to lose. Feel free to add me!4
-
Hey there! I'm Carrie. I'm 45 and married. I'm currently at 230 lbs and want to land around 150 lbs (in the "heavier" end of normal BMI). I'm actually thinking more about measurements than weight, if that makes sense?
I gained weight during lockdown, but I haven't been good with my eating/exercise habits for a long, long time. I tend to snack when I'm upset or sad OR happy - and I'm trying to get out of the "food = reward" mindset.
Weight for me is a health issue more than anything. I have ME and I can feel my body is much happier with a lower weight and slow-release carbs as well as regular meal times. I also have a bad left knee (work accident) and strong leg muscles are really key to keeping my knee steady.
Currently biking a lot on my city bike, but thinking of adding in swimming (which I'm bad at but nevermind! I won't drown!).
Hello accountability pals!3 -
Wow @wornoutmamabear that's fantastic! I'm glad you're seeing clear progress!
@ashleycarole86 that's so inspiring! I'm so excited for you to hit such a meaningful place!
Hi Carrie @cswirl76 adding you I just started getting serious about this a week ago. I'm in my late 30's, 276lbs, and I just want to be able to keep up with my active family and have adventures without my body holding be back (trail hikes, siteseeing, traveling, that sort of thing). I also want to be healthy so I can be around for my kids as long as a can.
It sounds like you have clear goals and reasons for making this a priority too. Swimming is excellent, and actually sounds like a fun way to add more healthy movement to your routine. I'm looking forward to hearing about your progress!
How was everyone's weekend? What's one thing you'd like to do a bit better this week?2 -
Hey @kellibee2000 - I've added you back
This weekend was good! I'm having knee problems after a couple of days of biking, so will take it slow for a few days. I'd love to be better at substituting carbs in my diet. Feel like I'm forever eating fruit, pasta and rice. Even though I'm hitting targets right now, there has to be better options out there for filling me up!0 -
Hello everyone! I started last week assuming I weighed 280 pounds, weighed myself and turns out I weighed 294, then 290 on Friday. This morning I weighed myself at 298.7!! I don’t understand it’s also that time of month for me I don’t know if that makes any difference. Anyways despite what the scale says I know we do have non scale victories and well of course as it takes time to notice. I get very unmotivated during that waiting period. This week I start weight trading and a little bit of cardio. My mini goal right now it just to lose ten pounds!! Long time goal is just to be under 200 lbs. Good luck to everyone on here and I look forward to hearing everyone’s updates as they are very inspiring! 🙌🏻 We all Got this!! 💪🏻4
