Meals

I am so very picky with my meals. I'm not really sure how to eat well. When I go on a weight loss, I go by calories and moving more and it works very well. But now I'm not just trying to lose weight I'm trying to be healthy for my grandchildren. Does anyone have any meals that I may like? Like I said I am very very picky and it very bad on my diet . I also have not been working out very much. I pull 10-hour work days in a big roofing Warehouse pulling and pushing shingles so I am tired by the end of the day. Anybody have any advice on that? Thanks in advance

It hard to know what meals you may like without knowing you like and are picky about.

You have shingles? Hopefully you are past the contagious stage by now

Without knowing your preferences, I can only speak in generalities. Start with foods you like, and tailor the amounts to conform with your calorie target. After a few weeks, if your comfortable with the diet composition, start tweaking them to get closer to the nutrient targets MFP is showing. It will take a while to reach your goals, be patient, and don't give up.

It sounds like your getting plenty of exercise on the job, I wouldn't worry to much about working out unless you have the energy to do it. Fight the battle on one front at a time so you can focus.

There's a ton of information on healthy eating on the web, stay away from Gurus, and Miracle Diets. Look instead to the National Institute of Health info, Mayo Clinic, and many other well known public research institutions.

Finally, this may be hard to hear, but, being picky about your meals is just another excuse to fail. Stay away from fast / processed foods, refined sugar etc... Instead choose fresh fruit, vegetables, cheeses, meats, and minimally processed foods such as frozen veg, and fruits without any added anything. Your best tool is your own brain, even research institutions can be wrong, if it isn't working for you, try something else.

Working 10 hours in a shingle warehouse may be enough exercise, yay!

You have control of your intake, yay!

You are interested in expanding your diet, yay!

Just try eating 1 new thing at a time. A good rule of thumb is to try to replace anything that comes in a package with something fresh. In many parts of the world, if you have the resources, it's fun to try every product sold in the fruit and vegetable section of the grocery store, looking up how to prepare it online. At least in my grocery store, there are a lot of hidden gems.

(Many of us are so fortunate to have such a wide choice while so many suffer from food insecurity. In gratitude, I donate monthly to my local food charity and I encourage others to do so as well.)

What are you picky about? Flavors, textures, both, something else? If it's a case of "I cannot stand the taste of tomatoes and if I never so much as see one again it'll be too soon," that calls for a different approach than "I can't do squishy things with hard chunks in them, but I can do hard things with squishy chunks."
