Soreness from working out

Hello!
So, I'm really out of shape. Last night for the first time ever I did level 1 of the 30 Day Shred. I am so sore today in my arms and legs I'm not sure if I should attempt it today. I stretched really good before and after I did the work out. Any thoughts or suggestions on if I should try it again tonight? I really want to stay on track with the program but I don't want to hurt myself at the same time.
Thanks,
Shannon

Is 30 day shred a daily routine of the same exact exercises?0

I can relate. When I started Jillian's Yoga Meltdown I was sore for about three days!! What I would recommend would be to wait one day and the day after you workout stock up on Protein to help your muscles re coup.. You dont want to do it again if your in horrible pain because that can actually be counter productive. Good Luck and great burn!!0

Yes, kind of. There are 3 different levels and they get more intense the higher the level. Me being a beginner, I would stick with level 1 and it is the same exercises until I move on.0

That's the bad thing about 30 day shred. It works the same bodyparts day in and day out. I would recommend that you take a day off. If you can get a hold of her Yoga Meltdown DVD at Walmart or Target I would work in a rest day every three days with Yoga. You could also just go for a nice walk later on if you're able to. Whatever you do, don't give up.0

I've heard after you work out, to prevent soreness, you should take a warm shower, and at the end, turn it on cold for a minute. Supposedly this helps. Good luck!0

I'm starting the 30 Day Shred tonight, I'm sure I will be SO sore tomorrow. I plan on taking a day off, or maybe going for a brisk walk or using my eliptical machine. We'll see how I feel0

That's odd to me. Especially if it's Jillian's program. Every good trainer knows you don't strength train the same muscles everyday.0

Always look after your body. If you have to ease into the 30 day shred with a few days off in between, do it until you recover the next day not sore.
Also stretching. I know you mentioned that you stretched before and after, but i find the cool down/stretch never enough on those exercise DVDs..(I have seen the 30 day shred and the cool down is terrible) A good 15 min stretch is a minimum to prevent injury and ensure a speedy recovery. Also as Christmre said. Warm shower and a cold shock will get the blood to those worked muscles, speed recovery and make you feel amazing.
Stick with it, but look after your body.0 -
not sure it is much resistance other than with your own body weight. and super light dumbbells. Good workout though.0

My legs are the most sore. Bending over to tie my shoes this morning was killer! I did like the work out in level 1 and it is nice that it only took 20 minutes.0

From my experience when my body tells me it needs rest, I give it rest. When you don't you either waste time because your not able to put in enough work/effort to make it worth while and/or produce results.......OR......you over extend what your body can actually handle because you think "It's just soreness and of course its gonna hurt when I move" and you hurt yourself. Because if you had not been feeling that way you would've known felt that "This is too much, I should stop now" point......
Advice: REST for a day, even two if you feel you need it. Good Luck!!!0 -
Thank you everyone for your input!! I guess I just feel foolish like I'd be giving up too easy if I didn't do it tonight. I will take all of your advice and maybe alternate with all different types of exercises. I will also take it easy when I'm super sore. Being new at this, I'm just not familiar with my body's limits and I don't know what to expect/watch out for.
Thanks again!!!0
