Mobility Motivation

Hi,
I have used MFP intermittently for just over four years and in this time I have lost a few stones only to now be nearly back at stage one.
I am a chronic pain suffer with spinal degeneration and struggle mainly with walking so a lot of fitness related activities I cannot do at this time, with weight loss the pain is likely to ease and the options of activities should increase in turn, the problem is I just cannot get motivated and find myself sitting more and more and feeling lower and lower.
I like MFP but am not a whizz with technology, which parts of MFP should I be using? I actually only record weight and calories count when I'm on track.
Has anybody any ideas or advice they can offer, this time I just can't seem to hit the start button 😦

Honestly, for me the best tool I found to increase my activity level was not MFP, but a fitness tracker. Nothing like seeing how inactive I was in hard numbers, to make myself move more 🙂 an extra bonus was that I could eat more and still lose weight.

I would recommend doing aquatic activities. Water will help take some pressure off your back which will help address some of the pain. Water also makes for decent resistance, so you could do total body exercises in water. You could even just walk in the water to get steps in, or swimming is a really good way to get some cardio in which would help with the weight loss that you’re looking for

I'm having a recent back issue that is probably a small lower-back nerve pinch. So far, I've just soldiered on, but some activities definitely aggravate it, such as jogging. Swimming and cycling seem to be OK, and, in fact, seem to make it feel better. The worst thing appears to be sitting still.

One thing that is under-appreciated is the help of using ice for lower back. I try to ice my lower spine after every jog and also at other times. I bought an ice pack specifically for lower back, which I can pull out of the freezer and wear on my lower back with a belt. It really helps. I still need to take ibuprofen at bedtime.

Hi there, I'm new to Fitness Pal, I also suffer with severe pain and spinal degeneration. I've no cartilage in both knees so it's bone on bone. It's difficult to exercise, I cannot walk very far and end up stopping every few minutes due to pain. I find swimming and cycling is the only exercise I can do. I know the feeling of just sitting there and getting lower and lower. I use food for comfort, even household chorus take me all day its so frustrating. I've joined fitness pal to get control back in my life. Hopefully following a healthy eating plan may lift my mood.
