Stress - B.A.D. bad!

I had a very bad food night last night. My son went to a friend's, my husband was out playing OMB (that would be Old Men's Basketball  ) and there I sat eating. I am going to the gym this morning to try to sweat all the crapola out. Why am I stressed?
1) The economy. I have a temp job at the school district that ends in June (but I get paid through August). I don't know if I will be able to find another job for next year because of budget cuts in the school and places are going out of business left and right in my town. Hubby has development contracts that are going bad. You can sue people to pay, but what good does that do? They don't have any money anyway.
2) My dad is not doing well. He is almost 80 and he and my mom live in CA and REFUSE to move closer to me. I have one kiddo at home still and uprooting a high schooler is not good (especially this one - a mother knows!). My dad sounds like hell and not himself. I can't afford to fly down there on a weekly basis and check on him and help mom. They do have a nurse that comes in that their insurance pays for, which is a little relief, but I find myself not sleeping well because my stomach is in knots. (OK - wouldn't it be nice to be one of those people who LOSES their appetite when they are stressed?!?!?!)
Ok, at least I can IDENTIFY where my stress is. So, I am going to try to make a pledge - no, wait I AM going to make a pledge, not just try - to not eat from stress because it isn't going to fix anything. I need to eat well so my energy is UP so I can handle whatever comes at me. Please wish me luck. Everyone have a great (and stress-free) weekend!!! :flowerforyou:

Sorry you're so stressed at the moment, a lot of people are in the same boat, I know its no consilation, but hang in there, things will look up eventuatlly :flowerforyou:
Take care :flowerforyou:0 -
It seems like so many of us are living with more & more stress. Prayer and faith in God help me the most. Exercise and eating healthier are second. And I keep looking at all the blessings I have in my life. There are many who are in a worse situation than I am in.
I know it's hard with aging parents. We just found out my mom has cancer, she turns 82 in March. I to live away but at least I'm in a distance we can drive. So I can help my sisters out that live close by.
DH hasn't worked since July. But at least we get along really well, for some couples the stress of this would put extra stress on the marriage. I haven't worked in nine years and have decided to go back to school. While it's exciting it's also scary.
My youngest DD is 19 and moved to FL with her BF. She's looking for a job but hasn't found one.
And the list goes on. But I hang on to the truth that God know's all of this and he cares for each of these things. He gives me peace beyond understanding.
I hope you can find peace so you will be able to sleep and not give in to eating out of stress.0 -
Thank you all for your thoughts! :flowerforyou: It actually IS some consolation to know that many people are in the same boat, because if others can do it without losing their minds, I can too.
Ok, going to tiptoe into my bedroom to get into my gym clothes. DH is still sleeping -basketball must've worn him out last night, ha ha.0 -
I have also been under a lot of stress lately and I believe that is why I am having so much trouble getting the weight off. To make matters worse, when we are not losing then we have that added stress.0

Try yoga. I work so hard at trying to get myself into those positions that for that hour, I forget about all the stressful things in my life...0

Get fit 2009,
So sorry to hear all you are going thru finances, job security, your mom and especially regarding your dad not doing well. Yes, you must be under a lot of stress. Thanks for trusting us all here on MFP by confiding in us. We are all here for you. Here to listen, here to offer whatever support we can.
Keep taking very good care of yourelf. Go for walks outside. Eat. Drink water and wind down b4 a good night's sleep. Good sleep make you more resourceful, more resilient to what is happening. Not getting enough would make you not feel up to any challenge.
What about soak in a nice bath, relax, put some candles on. Another poster mentioned Yoga. Yoga is great, so is tai chi, they're both gentle on the mind and body. Soothing, resting, calming, tranquility, peace. Peace knowing you're trying your very best, not all things can be under control yet you are trying your very best. Peace, tranquility knowing you are doing fine, and you are going to pull through this ok.
This too shall pass.
You are in my deepest thoughts of caring. Take very good care of yourself. Keep confiding in us of what you are going thru. We are here to listen.0 -

Thank you so much! :flowerforyou: I think a bath tonight before bed might help me sleep and would be a great way to wrap up the weekend. Yoga might get squeezed in next Friday. Thank you for the fabulous suggestions. Sometimes it's hard to think of new ways to de-stress by ourselves. And thanks all of you for listening. :flowerforyou:

Sorry to hear about your stress! I know how it feels also, I just graduated college in June and was working until December when right before Christmas they laid me off and I will not be going back! I have been looking for another job and there is nothing for me here, at least I haven't found anything yet! It is very stressful but hang in there. I also would eat alot of junk food because I was stressed and upset but I realized that it isn't doing anything GOOD for me because when I eat like that I am making myself more stressed out by the way my body is looking. I still get a craving for my junk but I have been being VERY moderate with it and it's only been about two weeks but I am already seeing some improvement!! :flowerforyou:0
