I got the cardio - but I can't seem to add strength training - any help?

Why not? There are so many awesome strength exercises you could do. Search on YouTube "Brix fitness beginner workout" I think you'll like those.0

The strength training part of the MFP exercise diary is just for keeping track of the specific exercise moves, and their reps/sets . . . and frankly, there are apps that do a better job of that. (I'm old-school, I use a paper notebook to do that.)
To log strength training to get calories, enter it under the cardiovascular exercise section.
If you're doing classic reps/sets with a short, defined rest in between sets, use the "Strength training (weight lifting, weight training)" entry, and put in the whole time, including the standard rests. (If you take a really longer break to chat with someone or something, don't count those minutes.)
If you're doing a strength circuit, where you move from station to station or exercise to exercise, keeping moving the whole time, maybe with a little running in place or something in between strength exercises, use "Circuit training, general".2
