Same foods every day?

I've noticed that I tend to go through phases where I want the same foods for several days/weeks. (Ex- currently I could care less about dinner, I just want a freakin' baked potato! ) Does anyone else do this?

Right now I am trying to get into the habit of tracking my foods, and after a week or two I will look at the areas I am weakest in and start making changes to my overall eating habits. I'm just noticing patterns already and wondering if they could be bad habits forming!

That's what happens in the beginning. You'll get the hang of it and learn to modify the thing you love without going over.

Personally, I figure out a meal plan that works, saving roughly 700 calories for dinner (I get 1900 per day) and eat the same thing for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Then I eat a variety for dinner. Every so often I get bored with what I'm eating during the day, and I build a new plan for the daytime and start eating that new plan. It makes calorie counting much easier, but doesn't allow for leftovers.

As long as you are getting the nutrients you need from food, it is ok to eat the same thing. If you want to try out new things and add them to your plan, why not start with what you already want. You want a potato? Fine, start making it in different ways, try different types of potatoes. Good luck!

I pretty much do the same thing...

I do that! I think that it's because it's so easy. I know how to make it and I know how many calories it is already.

This is exactly what I do too! I really only have variety at dinner. Check my diary, I've been eating Kashi Go Lean Crunch for breakfast forever and I'm on a wrap sandwich kick for lunch. Snacks are always the same too. Love my Chobani! If you track everything, you'll see what nutrients you're lacking. This site is perfect for that.

I mostly eat the same foods every day. Breakfast because that way I eat it and don't have to think too much, and dinners often because I'll make a batch of something and need to use it up, unless I freeze some. I'm single and self-employed, so time can be at a premium. The rest of my life can get complicated, so it keeps eating simple at least! And I've been doing this for years, not just since joining MFP.

I eat almost the same thing every day for breakfast and lunch - smoothie for breakfast, salad for lunch. I change up the ingredients for variety. Dinners vary but I usually make extra and eat leftovers for the next few days. For me, this works so well. If I don't plan what I eat ahead of time, I always get into trouble. Knowing that I don't have to come up with something for breakfast and lunch makes it so much easier.

On a side note, I have read (I don't remember the source but I'm sure it was something on cnn or msnbc) that people who eat the same thing every day for breakfast tend to lose weight and keep it off. This isn't the only thing I do to lose weight, but I know it's a big part of it for me. I love routine and I have gotten very used to what I've been doing, and so far, it's working! :)

    Eat a baked potato!
They aren't super-dense with calories. Just skip the butter, sour cream, etc.
The waiter/waitress always gives me a questioning look when I order it dry, but they bring it that way.
On the repeated menu items ... not a thing wrong with that. If that's what you want -- get it!
That's what's so easy about MFP's program: Don't deprive yourself.
Sure, you may not be alloted AS MUCH for a sensible serving, but submitting to your cravings will reduce the likelihood of going on a binge and destroy your progress.
