Happy tears

I've been overweight since like the 2nd grade. I've been on every diet, every exercise regime, every alternative food diet prescribed by doctors, etc.
Last October I moved from my college in Kansas to northern California. I lived with my friend's parents who made interesting dinners that were usually made up of things that I'd never eaten before. It was incredible, I had NEVER liked cooked veggies and now I'm the queen of ordering tomato, mushrooms, olives, artichoke hearts and tofu on a pizza. (Yummy. that sounds good...) Without paying any attention, I was drastically changing my diet and my body was having a positive reaction to it. I went to the doctor two weeks ago and realized that I am 50 pounds lighter than I was when I moved here.
That being said, my negative mind consistently plagues me. I know that I've lost weight because I've bought smaller clothes and my old clothes are baggy on me. However, for some reason I still look at myself and see fat and not success.
Five minutes ago I walked in front of a mirror and stopped in my tracks. I'm wearing a form fitting jacket that, when I bought it, was only worn with tummy tuck tanks and bottoms. Today, with nothing but a loose fitting t-shirt under it, it is so baggy it is not even touching my curves. I cried. I don't know what it is about today, but I see the progress and I'm extremely proud of myself.
I just wanted to share that :]

That is awesome!!
Great journey and very aspiring.
Often we are the last to see progress because we see ourselves all the time.0 -
Way to go. I am glad you are experiencing all that new and wonderful food too!0

Great to see progress.....even better to have made lifestyle changes!! Keep up the good work!0

Congrats!
I feel the same way sometimes too. I know I've lost weight, but I still see myself as the person I started this process as. Sometimes you need that one little thing to happen to spark something inside that tells you, "Hey look! You changed and you can do this, cause you already have!"
Great job!0 -
Way to go!0

Great job on your success!! I do the same thing... I am almost down 50 lbs and I still sometimes feel that I look the same as I did when I started... Feel that way on some days too! But at those times when you do see and feel it, it is an awesome feeling!! And that is what keeps me motivated Keep up your great work!!0

Seeing your own progress is a challenge sometimes. We have a mental image of how we look that often lags behind reality. Congratulations on getting your brain to realize how far you've come, and on the healthier lifestyle! Way to go!0

Wow!! You actually brought tears to my eyes, as I'm with you! It's those little things, right? However, either way - AWESOME NSV (non-scale victory) moment - good for you! It can be so inspiring when all of a sudden you do realize you are changing and it's actually working.
I have done the same thing - especially lately. I feel like a lighter version of the same, heavier person... but - then I'm in a class one day (which is the same chair and classrom I've been sitting in once a month since May) and all of a sudden said - wait, what are those things bothering my butt? Why all of a sudden is this chair uncomfortable?? Oh!! they're my bones, ha ha! With that extra padding there for so long, it never occurred to me before - hehe!! I had to share because it was actually funny when I realized it's maybe because I'm down 3 sizes!!
So good luck on your change and keep up the great work, maybe some day we can see ourselves the way others see us, ha ha0 -
I feel like a lighter version of the same, heavier person...
SOoooooooooooooo true. Thank you for articulating exactly how I feel.
I am extremely proud of myself right now. The most surprising thing? I've done it without an exercise routine. When I first moved here I used to go walk on the beach once or twice a week, but that's it. When I was in KS I was OBSESSED with working out and what calories I was intaking and rarely saw results. I really believe it's directly correlated with this new mindset that I adopted when I moved out here. I love myself now. I eat healthier because it tastes better and I deserve healthy foods; not cardboard tasting starvation food that I used to swear by. I am headed back to the Midwest for a few weeks and when I get back I'm going to start a membership at a gym and hopefully create another reason to feel great everyday.0 -
