Hi! I am considering purchasing Chalean Extreme and was just curious to get some real, honest opinions on it. I did Turbo Fire, and I loved the energy and the fun music, but want to do some toning and I enjoy weight lifting way more than cardio. How long are the CLX workouts and do they have the same fun music as Turbo Fire? Are you getting good results? I don't have a large number of pounds to lose but I really need to tone and firm my body.
And yes, before you ask, I have searched previous topics and I have read them...I'm just looking for some fresh responses.
Thanks!!!!

I think you'll enjoy it if you love to lift. I have a friend here that swears by CLX and has gotten great results from it. She loves it more than P90X. Since Chalene Johnson is the same instructor, you won't have a problem there. I am not sure about it having a lot of the same type of music as you would in TF though.

I havent done turbo fire yet, but I LOVE Chalean Extreme. The workouts are about a half hour.... I havent done the "cardio" ones that come with it though, just the weight lifting. Music isnt overly exciting, because its weight lifting, so not too high energy. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Chalean!!!!

  • I'm on my second run. I was a Finalist in the Million Dollar Body Game for that program earlier this year. It's a really great, basic weight program. It's quick and very effective. I lost about 15lbs and have really seen muscle gains in my arms, chest, and back.

Here's a video review I did on it the first run through. http://youtu.be/wcjKqQf4mCc

This is what I'm considering doing next too. I have 20 days left of Supreme 90 Day.

There's a lot of info and reviews on the net about CLE. I can't wait to start it!

The music is not as great as Turbo Fire....but i have done it and still do it for my lifting and i have seen great results! There are 2 cardio's that come with the collection too....you def have to keep up with cardio as well when u are lifting espcially when you still have pounds to shed! I do enjoy it, and i feel it was def worth my money!! Im not a big fan of lifting weights...but, i do like CLX.

@ Deana, I am doing Supreme 90 right now too, and I like it, but I am losing interest. Thanks for all the responses so far.
  • I love it... I have about 2 weeks left in the 3rd month (Lean Phase) and then I'll do it all over again - Enough work outs so that I don't get bored and I have definitely lost a few inches and a few pounds and gained good muscle and definition.
I love Chalene's energy in the videos and I like the cardio work-outs as well.

I'm in the 1st week of the Push phase...tomorrow is Push Circuit 3. This is the phase where you lift really heavy in order to max out between 6 - 8 reps. I love it! Although this is only my 5th week, I can already see and feel the definition in my arms and legs...I'm thoroughly impressed. I sometimes mix up the cardio with other types of workouts (i.e. Turbo Jam, WATP, etc.) but it's all good. I will continue to use this as my weight training workout for quite awhile. The music is different than what you hear in TJ and TF, but it's still not boring. You can also go through the routine without the music...this way, you can jam to whatever you like...or nothing at all.

Love it, but it's very different from TurboFire.

The music is not the same. In fact, I don't even really notice the music in CLX.

There are 2 ab dvds, one is 10 minutes, the other is 15 minutes. The lifting dvds are anywhere from 30-45 minutes long. I don't really use "Recharge" though. I find it too slow and easy. I stick with Stretch 40 from TF if I feel like yoga. There are two cardio dvds, and I can't recall how long one of them was (because it was too easy), but I love the Burn Intervals (45 minutes long), which is supposed to help with muscle endurance. To me, this workout still feels like a HIIT, but with lighter weightlifting during so-called "rests". It's amazingly hard.

Heavy lifting is awesome, and I think this is a really great program for it, especially for women and especially if you're new to lifting. :flowerforyou:

Yes, totally different than Tfire. It's not high impact, but it is high quality. Basically you work your muscles until they are fatigued. I use 10 pound weights and I can only do about 10-12 reps over everything! It's good though! I am mixing it into my Tfire rotations once I hit week 6-8! :)

I only just started CLX, finished burn circuit 2 today but I love Chalene!! I love her turbos too!! I hope to have great results as well and I have her turbo jam for the days that the cardio on her routine are not enough. I hear great reviews about it, and will hopefully have more to add in a month or so!! LOL

Day 72 here. I'm on my last round. UB tonight and Tabata Sat....I hate those 2 the most and can't wait to be done with those! Otherwise, I love the rest!

dixie....I am ready for something new but close enough that I'm not completely bored. I'll be done Oct 3 and can't wait to start CLE just for a change in routine. I think I would be this way with anything. I bet bored easy so 70 days behind me on anything is a good track record!

I use the Bowflex SelectTech weights that Chalene uses in the videos. You will need a few different weights to start out with (the amount of weight you use really depends on each different exercise), or resistance bands to create your own amount of resistance. If you have the money for it, I definitely recommend the SelectTech weights-- they are awesome for switching to different weights quickly and having a wide range of weight to use.

It's a very good weight training program, and the cardio days whip my butt too. As long as you keep at it, you will see gains in both endurance and muscle tone. I started on it, got to the last week of the Push phase, and began slacking off...I'm going to start fresh today.

Thanks everyone for the responses! Right now I have 8 pound and 15 pound weights, but I think I would like to get a set of the select tech. I work out in my living room so storage is a problem! I am leaving for vacation tomorrow, so I think I will order CLX when I get home!!!

I use reebok speedpac 5 to 25 lbs. They are cheaper than the selectec. They work for me.

I have done a lot of programs. I started off with Turbo Jam when I decided to try and get into shape. I then went to Turbo Jam Advanced. Then I got Turbo Fire, it was a bit intense for me but I gave it a try on and off.
I went to ChaLEAN (CLX), and loved it. I found out that I love weights plain and simple. I am not big on cardio and in fact I really hate doing cardio. But with CLX its 2 days of cardio which I can handle. The people are funny and up lifting. Chalene is motivating and very real. You will love the Extreme Motivation CD that comes with it. At least I do. I listen to it all the time cuz you really do have to change your mind set. Music I think is appropriate for the work being done. Its Chalene we are talking about still and she always has great fun music in her videos. There are more what I call melodies (just music with some vocal sound/noise) not much like Boom I Got UR Boyfriend. I did 60 days of CLX...motivation and life just rolled over me. I am a little upset but its in the past now. I lost mostly inches and body fat but I believe I did lose a total of 10lbs for those 60days. I don't remember the inches and fat% but my best guess is 5" in all areas (Not all together) and 7-10% body fat. It really was amazing. My cloths were the scale for me. Meaning I went by how my cloths fit and I dropped 2 sizes.
From CLX I went to P90X in June 2011. CLX really prepped me for P90X. I don't think I would have been able to do P90X if I did not do CLX first. I did about 2months of P90X and fell off the wagon AGAIN....grrrrrrr. I really think having a support team and accountability are key. I have started a page on FB for just that. Its https://www.facebook.com/groups/fiercefighters/ feel free to join if you think that might help in anyway. I just started ChaLEAN Extreme again this Monday (10/3/11). I am almost done with week one. And I feel amazing again. I have not done 1 exercise since Aug. I really do enjoy CLX and think it is an amazing program. TJ and CLX are by far my 2 favorite programs thus far. I love Chalene, the people she chooses, the workouts she brings you, and the enthusiasm she provides.
Hope that helped. I think you should just GO for it and make your own decision. I really think you'll be happy with it and if for some reason you are not they always have that return policy.
  • Oh the CLX workouts are 30-60 minutes long. Mostly 30-48minutes. Very time effective too. Thats another thing I love about CLX.

I use the bands and I love them. I was thinking I would like the hand weights better too when I first got the program/ordered. But after trying the bands I really don't think I would want it any other way. At least give em' a try for a week and see what you think. You might be surprised....I was.

For those using HRMs...what kind of burns do you get?

I'm in my first week of CLE. I burn about 100 calories on the burn circuit days and burned 300 on my first burn interval.

I must say, I'm a little disappointed in my HRM numbers. I just did Supreme 90 Day and I burned about 160-200 on my "weight days" and 300 in 30 mins of cardio. I realize I'm in better shape than I was 90 days ago, but I would think that going to failure with Chalean should yield similar results. S90 also aimed for 10-12 reps.

My heart rate just doesn't get up enough doing CLE weight days. And I'm using weights that get me 10-12. I may need to up a 2lb weight (I need to buy)...but I don't think I'm really that much under what I need. I feel my muscles have been worked the next day, but it's hard to stay within my net calories if I don't get good burns. And I can run on my treadmill, but then there's another 30 mins I have to find time for.

I have the body bugg, but I burn about 140-150 with the CLE weight days.
