Dietitian, Therapist, Eating Disorder Recovery

I’m just wondering what the process of working with a trauma therapist and dietitian looked like for you, particularly if you had an eating disorder.

Also, has anyone taken Abilify for Bipolar 2, was it helpful, did it make you gain weight?

Cannot answer first question but on second one.....

I have not taken Abilify ( Aripiprazole) - but I do work in a medical centre and we have quite a few regular patients on it.

I know weight gain can be a side effect of most of these sort of anti psychotic medications (not sure by exactly what mechanism) - but in real life some of the patients are over weight and some are not.

Like the general population, I guess - although being aware of this and calorie counting or otherwise monitoring your intake seems a good idea.

I found working on my mental health is what was needed to get my eating disorder in check. I take zoloft for depression. I notice when Im anxious about something the old ED habits want to attack. Now Im in a place i can recognize and smash them away! I think we can all benefit from therapy. Once I was on zoloft for a bit the self destructive behavior decreased 95%.
  • I don't know exactly what your situation is, but if you have the ability to work with an eating disorder therapist and ED nutritionist/dietitian I would highly recommend it. It worked out great for me and was much more helpful than the times I saw a nonspecialist.

I take 30 mg abilify. It is supposed to be weight neutral. I think it may make me a little hungrier, but not like zyprexa or depakote. I am overweight but I would be hard pressed to blame it on abilify. And, my stability is worth it.
