The older I get the harder it is to loose weight. I need something to speed up the metabolism! Any suggestions?

Change your diet - look into healthy flushes or find a diet that fits with your lifestyle and commit. I've been doing the fat flush plan for the past month and a half and I am down 20 lbs just by getting the processed foods out and getting active.0

I am 49 and I have been having the same problem for the past few years. I do not gain weight but I can't lose either. I eat healthy and exercise...but apparently not enough cardio!0

Strength training. you need to build muscle to increase your metabolism. My mother is in her 50's and slimmed down by doing body pump classes at the gym. If you don't have a gym, I recommended a Jillian Michael DVD. In addition, cut down on fat producing food, such as juice, high fructose corn syrup, and anything bread or cake like that you haven't made yourself. I swear, when I eat these foods, I can tell the NEXT MORNING because my face is so puffy.0

Working out and caffeine. Coffee and tea are probably the best sources, but there are others I'm sure.0

Wow I am surprised at all the advice so quickly, thank you!! I keep trying to run but my knees always get sore and I keep giving up. I have been trying to lessen the carbs (which I swear I am addicted to) but I will push for more weight lifting to build muscle and start the cardio again. Zumba classes were alot of fun with my co workers but it killed my knees.0

I'm 56 and gaining ground. Strength training is making a big difference for me. I've always enjoyed running, but that just wasn't getting me past small weight losses. Exercise bands, hand weights, push ups, squats, anything where you can use your own body weight. And I've cut out processed foods, most grains, and get my carbs from fruit and veggies. Found out, amazingly, I wasn't eating enough calories, so my metabolism had slowed way down. Now I'm eating 1300-1400 calories, working out 4 hrs a week, and I'm losing 1-2 lbs/week. Slow, but sure!0

I'll underscore the importance of building muscle mass -- the more mass you have, the more calories you will burn, even when your engine is just idling...let alone when you are exercising.0

Another vote for more strength training. Cardio should come second to that for building your metabolism. Also try to eat smaller meals more frequently and avoid processed foods.0

You need to bBe realistic about your body as you get older.
Now I'm in my mid 40s, I'm finding that I simply cannot eat as much as I used to, and have to make an effort to get a lot of exercise in.0
