Heart rate monitor!

So I got my hrm this week and started using it, only to find that I have been waaaaaaay off with amount of calories burned. I have been using the numbers on the machines at the gym and now find they are telling me that I use almost twice as many calories as I actually was. No wonder my weight loss stalled out when I was eating back all my calories. I was eating way beyond what I actually used. Hope I see some good results now that I know more accurately what my calorie usage is.

Did you change the machines when you were on them so they were set up for you? Mine was off some but not a ton. Glad you have a HRM now and are on track. Good luck!0

I couldn't manage without my HRM and my food scale. Good for you for taking control!0

I adjusted the machines for my age and weight but they still allowed me too many calories burned. I tend to have a slow resting heart rate and low blood pressure so maybe that would explain why I burn fewer calories.0

The same thing happened to me, except MFP was underestimating my calories burned, and I wasn't eating enough! This HRM is the best thing ever!0

I learned the same thing... and the numbers MFP guesses for you are way off as well.
Assuming you have an HRM with a chest strap tht you can program your stats in anyway...
I did actually find a brand new machine at the gym that matches my HRM almost identical.0 -
I find that the HR monitors at the gym are horrible. Congrats on you new HR monitor. I have a polar that tracks calories and HR. They are great tools to aid in your weight loss. I hope you enjoy0

So great that you now have an accurate picture of your calories burned. I just got my HRM too and I don't know how I lived without it! I even take mine swimming, in the pool, at the gym. And yes - both MFP and the exercise machines at the gym were off based on what my HRM is telling me now. Not a lot (probably less than 50 calories per activity) but still, enough to make a difference.0

HRM are WONDERFUL. If someone is thinking of joining a gym they should just take the money and buy a HRM. Wear it anywhere and find out how much calories you burn with accuracy, I love mine! I hate jogging and have never really been one for bike riding, but now I can see just how much I burn it is amazing and I know just a quick ride on the bike and I can burn off a ton of calories :-D Walking/Joggin on the treadmill just isn't the same as on the road - on the treadmill I average only about 100 calories a mile... on the road I seem to double that.0
