Help Me Please! I need support!!! Need over 50 success support friends!!

I used MFP 8 years ago to lose 55 pounds and I was awesome. I went from 190 to 135 and looked and felt fantastic. Since then, life got in the way. My daughter was seriously injured in an accident and all focus went on her recovery for more than a year-- I was diagnosed with an immune disease and started bi-monthly IV infusion therapy with chemo type drugs that caused weight gain--- My disease is an arthritis with intense joint pain and swelling so quit exercising-- My job as a respiratory therapist in an intensive care unit became nearly unbearable with the onset of COVID-19 and the incredible workload required.-- Excuses-- real ones, but excuses none the less to let myself go. I now find myself weighing more than 200 pounds and I hurt to even move around. So how do it deal??? I eat. Sweet, salty, savory-- whatever to give me a couple minutes of pleasure-- This has got to stop. I know what needs to be done but I need support to make it happen. Please join me and lets provide the support to do this!

    Shuleran,
By the sound of things it seems like you have really been through a lot over the past few years. How is your daughter doing was she able to recover from her accident? Also I’ve seen the reports about hospitals and health care system being overwhelmed due to COVID-19 and your specialty is one that is being directly impacted! I wouldn’t be hard on yourself you have been through a lot and this weight loss that you will be accomplishing consider it part of your recovery. My Aunt has auto immune I think it’s called Rhemuatory (not sure spelling) Arthritis she has to get similar injections she ended up catching COVID and she had complications due to her autoimmunity disease and it took her months to recover from Covid-19. My situation is that so have always struggled with my weight and was always big. I played football and was an offensive lineman that played left tackle. So about 2 years ago I had an aggressive infection in my leg and When I went to hospital they discovered that I was on septic shock. They thought it was a flesh eating bacteria and took me into surgery to operate on my leg. They made two cuts into my leg one on each side and the wounds were deep down to the bone pretty much. I ended up being ventilated for 9 days and kept under the whole time. This caused me to have issues walking after being over weight to begin with, being bedridden while recovering, then going to wheelchair, walker etc. I put on a lot of weight. I’m at the point where I’m trying to take this weight loss serious. I am trying to force myself to believe no more excuses. I agree with you about the whole it hurts to move it’s the worst feeling ever. So right now I’m using MFP and started a diet that they customized for me. Today is the third day and I have been logging all my food and I am trying to move and exercise Even if it’s just a little bit. When you lost the 55 pounds 8 years ago what was one of the best strategies you used to lose that ? You did it 8 years ago you got this you can do it again I believe in you!! Thanks for sharing your story I’m rooting for you feel free to respond or update your progress ! Your journey won’t be perfect so be kind to yourself and give yourself the advice that you would give to your daughter!! I am a parent as well and I can be really hard on myself sometimes we have to cut ourselves some slack and remember that it is okay to not be perfect.

Thankyou for your kind words! My best strategy was to keep logging my food in the diary. Seeing it written down changes everything!!! We got this!!

I work as a nurse in an ICU so I know what you mean about the stress of Covid. I currently weigh 316 pounds (down from 418). I feel kind of stuck. Would love to be and receive support.

This is a wonderful discussion. One thing that can really help is a team where you stick together doing a lot of these things. For a long time. Until it works.

I found one like that and ended up as one of its leaders. It is a blast! I have been maintaining now for 9 years (since September). Check it out! We have a few teams, each with a different flavour, so it helps to read through a bit of each one to see what clicks. Then join for November and see if it works. If so - stick around until you hit your goal and beyond.

Have a good look: (team chats under "discussions", general stuff under "announcements")
