hi!
i have decided to run the local half marathon in march 2012
i always said i wanted to do it before i was 30 and as i am local i feel it is a right of passage to take part - i will also be raising money for cystic fibrosis as my neice suffers from this condition
however i am not a runner! i am pretty fit - i am going for my first run tonight!!! eeek! im scared! i havent run in almost 3 years! and i want to bottle out of tonight!!
any runners out there who can sugest any motivation tips and trainin programmes?
i am not after finishing it really fast - under 3 hours for 13miles would be great (hastings is one of the hardest as it is so hilly!)
how often should i be training between now and then? and what distances?
i cant train on a mon, tue, wed as i teach pole fitness on these nights and work in the day.
any advice, support, motivation apprecaited as i am a little nervous! 6 months to go!!

I am using this training plan: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/134.shtml
I don't run 5 days a week though, I only run 4. I leave out Saturdays run.
you can fit in runs whenever you have time really. I would aim for at least 4 days a week, maybe 3 if you doing a lot of other cardio.0 -
I have no idea- but I did want to say congrats for making that goal and training for it! I never thought I was a runner and just ran my 1st 5k. I want to cry thinking of anything more... congrats!0

I was never a runner myself! But two years ago I decided to do my first half marathon and I have now done 2!!!
This is the schedule that I used to train. Since you can't run mon, tues, wed this actually will work ok for you. Rest is always monday and you usually cross train on Wednesday -- so you'd only be missing one run day...
good luck! I believe that anyone can do ANYTHING they put their mind to. GO GIRL!

that looks quite doable as i do exercise videos and resistance training at home as well so i could use that as my CT- thank you0 -
I think you're in trouble if you can't train 3 days a week. I would get a 5 mile run in after your class while you're at the gym. At least it's something.
I'm considering doing the PF Changs Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon in Jan and haven't really begun to train. I'm in a 6 week boot camp now, so after that I'm going to see how I feel and if I want to continue or not!
Good luck 13 miles isn't THAT bad. I'd just start reading all the websites on training for a marathon and see what they say. Get a good pair of shoes or 2!

Check out Jeff Galloway. He has great info on his website and several books that might help you.0

I am facing the same thing! I signed up for a half-marathon for January 2012. The farthest I have ever run is like 9 miles but I jogged/walked that and I joined a local running group. That was last year. This year, I haven't started training but I have been doing Body Pump, Spinning and Cardio Night Club Classes to try to get some weight off first. I am scared to start running because it starts to hurt my knees.
And I also am a klutz and fell off the treadmill so I try to run outside, but in TX it's sooo hot right now!0 -
i started last night!
first runin 3 years
3.8 miles, 45 mins, 474 calories burned
my legs are a little stiff tday especially my adductors
can anyone suggest any good, but not toooo expensive running trainers? i need some
