So need some hrm advice. I want one that I can record intervals on as well. I'd also like something that doesn't require me sending into the company for a battery replacement (I know some models have user replaceable batteries).

I think Polar is the way to go. I bought a Timex because I liked the look of it better, and it seemed to be more like a regular watch. I like Timex watches. And the Timex ones have a stopwatch and countdown timer. But the calorie reading was terrible. Just not enough info to give an accurate reading (you only enter weight - no age, sex).

Polar seems pretty dedicated to accurate monitoring. It's all still estimations, though, right? The key is getting as close as you can, reducing your margin of error. For me, that meant ordering a Polar FT7: http://tinyurl.com/4xbt762 It is a very highly rated watch. Check around.

However, the FT7 doesn't have much of a stopwatch. I believe it will time your current session, and that's about it. If you really need intervals, I suggest looking at the Polar RS100: http://tinyurl.com/3nyu6uu

I almost go that one because of the stopwatch/interval stuff it has. But it's a larger watch, and I wanted something I could wear casually, not just exercising. Also the black and red FT7 is, like, Speed Racer awesome.

Does anyone know if you choose the chest strap size that comes with the HRM or it only comes with a certain size and you have to buy a different strap?

Mine, and most I've seen come with an adjustable chest strap that is also elastic and will fit most people.

I have the Polar FT7, and although the strap is adjustable, it's really meant for people on the thin side. I'm 5'-10", 223 lb., and I have the strap set to the largest setting and it's still too tight on me...
