I personally finally just revamped my diet and am starting to lose. I don't actually go out of my way to plan for a "eat whatever I want meal". But usually on the weekend, if we get together with friends, I don't concentrate so much on counting calories. I will have a bite or two of the "not so good for you" stuff, but still fill up on salad and vegetables and such. So far, for the past four weeks, it has been working for me and I've been able to control it. Just my opinion and what works for me.

I have one cheat meal a week.

This winter...I would have 2-3 a week, but I was also burning 1500-2000 calories on those days by boarding, so I felt like the whole day was a cheat meal. Those days are almost over.

it can work, within reason. There's no reason why you can't have pizza or whatever once in awhile. I do. But i still count the calories, and usually do an extra workout to earn enough calories to have it.

I think it all depends on if you can do it. I see nothing wrong with it in theory--I do it myself--but if you are the type who after that meal cannot get back on the straight and narrow, then you shouldn't do it. I have a cheat "day", every Sunday from noon to around 7 pm. I had 20 lbs to lose when I started this MFP journey in January, and now I am down 18. Being so close to my goal probably has something to do with my attitude about cheat meals. But I was going for a whole lifestyle change and I knew I would never "stick" with a diet overhaul that didn't allow the odd day of endulgence. It's just that now my endulgences are so rational! I never use the cheat day to binge. In fact, I have one firm rule and that is I can eat what I want, I just CANNOT eat it until I am full. All week long I keep my stomach used to small meals, I don't want to wreck it on Sundays! So I say go for it, see how you do. If you can manage it, I think you will find it really helps the weight loss, not to mention attitude! Good luck!!

I have one cheat meal a week. usually Sunday breakfast when hubby wants his bacon and eggs. I used to have (pre-conscious eating) three fried eggs and goodness knows how many strips of bacon. Now I have two eggs and whatever the bacon package says is a serving size (3 slices I think) with some whole grained toast.

I can't be trusted to do that! I could easily turn a day into one BIG, never-ending meal:smile:

I have a cheat meal whenever I want... usually one or two on the weekends. But I still choose wiser than before.... a DIET Coke and the smallest french fry possible with my burger.

If I deny myself foods I love, I will eventually go nuts and binge. No thanks. Moderation for me!

I allow myself a 2 cheat meals a week. I try to keep them within reason though. I'm eating 5 or 6 small meals a day so indulging has been making me feel a bit sick lately. I know it is a good sign, but I do love to eat.

In the interest of full disclosure, I usually scrap one of those meals and count any alcohol I have towards it. That helps me psychologically.

I also allow myself a cheat meal and a cheat dessert. I am good during the week through lunch time on Friday and then I usually have two slices of pizza for dinner. Then I'm good all day Saturday (even do a step aerobics class on Saturday morning) and I get a two scoop ice cream cone for dessert on Saturday. I can't wait for Saturday night!!! I've been doing this the entire time I've deen dieting and have still lost weight. I get right back on track on Sunday. This works for me, but not everybody is the same.

I think that can be a good idea as long as it's a meal and not a binge.

I do it, but I don't regulate it (once a week). Occassionally pizza or tortillas and cheese dip (my nemisis) will sound REALLY good and so I'll sit down and have it. Generally about 800 calories worth.

I ALWAYS log my 'special foods' and I normally end up around 1600 cals for those days, which by MFP's calculations - I will still lose weight!

I don't think there is harm in it ONLY if you are not prone to binging or going on a three day stuffyourface afterwards. I normally feel a little sick the morning after I eat those foods, so it steers me away for a good long while. :ohwell:

I actually follow a program called Body for Life. On this program, you are learning a new way of living rather than dieting. You are encouraged to take one day a week that you can eat anything you want. It keeps you motivated and you don’t feel deprived, which is the downfall of many diets. I can have the decadent things I love so I seem to be able to stick to this a little better than other plans.

Another thing I have found is that it keeps my body guessing. The body can get very used to a set amount of calories so the variation seems to keep my metabolism running.

I usually do my free day on the weekends and I don't even bother to put the calories into the log. Another benefit of having a free day is that if I really screw up one day, then that can be my free day. I prefer to plan them but sometimes it just happens. Sometimes, I have even granted myself a cheat meal on one day and then only had half a free day on the weekend. I don’t feel guilty and harass myself with negative self talk about how I’ve failed.

Then it is right back to eating 5-6 small meals a day on a 1200 calorie plan. The most important thing is that I get back on the plan after the free day or cheat meal. I am in control. And it helps that if I over do it too much on a free day or cheat meal, I do not feel good the next day.

I ALWAYS have a cheat day on the weekends. All week I am REALLY good about sticking to my 1200 calories.

I'm just like Lauryn in the fact that if I deny things that I like I will eventually break down and say F**K it I'm eating!!

I always put it in my MFP so I can see what it's costing me. I've been finding that I usually feel crappy after I eat it so it puts me off craving whatever it was.

I can't say no to mexican food and must have it once a week so that's usually thrown in there somewhere. :)

I lost 2.2 pounds last week after eating pizza & mexican food (within moderation) for my cheat day so it works for me. I'm able to stop when I should.

I also do at least 5 days of cardio though so......
