This recipe is in my Running Room magazine this month and it's sounds amazing. I have yet to try it since I need to grab some pumpkin, but wanted to share it. It's perfect timing as the fall rolls in.
The don't have the sugar listed in the nutritional information but it can easily be figured out in the recipe section of MFP if it concerns you. It's mostly natural sugars anyways if you use a sugar free protein powder.

1/3 cup (75 ml) chilled water
1 scoop (30 g) vanilla flavoured protein powder
1/4 cup (60 ml) pure pumpkin puree
1 tbsp. (15 ml) liquid honey
1 tsp. (5 ml) finely grated orange zest
1 tsp (5 ml) grated fresh ginger
1/4 tsp. (1 ml) ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. (1 ml) ground cardamom
2 ice cubes

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse until combined.

Per Serving:

200 Calories
0 g Fat
12 g Protein
40 g Carbohydrates
6 g Fibre
161 mg Sodium

The perfect refuel shake after a long autumn run. Enjoy! :)

    that sounds sooooo good!!! :)
  • If y'all use 1/2 cup nonfat plain yogurt (such as chobani or fage) or even nonfat cottage cheese, it would make it super extra creamy, only contributes 50-70 calories but adds another punch of 12g of protein :)

you can also add a teaspoon of instant coffee, such as Tasters Choice or VIA Starbucks for a latte-tasting treat with some kick to it :)

  • Great recipe, can't wait to try it! I always stock up on pumpkin during the holidays, as well as cranberries (freezer), to have year-round, and this sounds like a great time. I use them in oatmeal and pancakes too!

There is only 2g of sugar in the pumpkin and if you have a sugar free protein powder like I do, then you really don't have a sugar issue. The honey is natural and there is nothing wrong with that. It's good for you.

I figured out there is 18g of sugar in it with the honey (16g) and the pumpkin (2g). I would leave out the honey if you want to cut sugar. I am going to try that next. It's quite tasty and the honey just makes it sweeter. Another option anyways. :)
