Unknown Calorie Level

Hi Everyone,

I had my first big hiccup tonight. I was at a work meeting where dinner was served for us, and I don't know the specific calories that went in it. We had a Jicama Mango Slaw and This Turkey and Bacon Wrap with what tasted like ranch dressing, but I am not 100% sure. I did google some similar recipes to what I think it could have been. What have people in the past done to avoid this happening?

I came home obviously and just guessed. Thoughts?

  • That is pretty much all you can do. I look up similar items on MFP or google recipes to get an idea and than log a similar items. It's not about perfectly tracking, but keeping an eye on what you are eating and having a general idea.

That's what I do in those cases. You just guess the best you can when you can't know and make the best choices you can when faced with food not of your choosing. Sounds like you did a pretty good job.

  • Guesstimate, or if you know where it was made (restaurant), see if they have a website with nutritional information.

I have only been on this site for 4 days and have already had to estimate. I usually try to estimate high. It must be working because I have already lost 6 pounds (not an official check in). I may have to adjust my intake to avoid losing too much weight too fast.

Ok another question..... how close to your calorie level should you get? Somedays I have an extra 300-500 calories. Do I eat these or just leave them?!?!
