Hi Sandra, I know what you are talking about. I can't count the times I started. I lost 50 pounds this time and still around 30-35 to go. I would not dare to give any advices but I can tell you what is working for me.
In the past I did extremely low calorie diets, the keto diet, the low fat diet, the Mediterranean diet and what not. What they all have in common is that there are foods or groups of food banned from them. I used to be very rigid following the diet and that was ok for a few months. Then one day, everything came down crashing after I gave in on one craving and there was no return. These diets are not sustainable. Not for me at least.
The difference this time seems to be that I didn't ban any foods or food groups. What I am doing is not a diet, it's the way I want to eat for the rest if my life. I am just eating less. This way, I don't feel deprived. It's making a huge difference. I eat the same food as my family and I usually leave a couple of hundred calories left every day in my budget to eat something sweet, I do have a sweet tooth, and believe me, that is making a huge difference for me. I don't need to have cheat meals because I eat what I like. Of course I weigh the ingredients of my meals and eat them according to my food budget. It is much easier to have control when you eat foods that you enjoy. I am also learning to be flexible. It is not all or nothing; if one day I eat too much, I don't feel that I am a failure or everything is lost. I just eat better the next day. I am trying to be kinder to myself.
Good luck!1
