I know we all have different goals depending on height, wieght ect. but i was wondering why my protein goal is so low - below 100. Is this common for weight loss? I was always under the impression that protein was good for you even when dieting. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Did you change your macros when you started? If not then it's set to the MFP standard % between Protein/Fat/Carbs. I am on a low carb high protein diet and have changed my macros to show I want to get at least 90g of protein a day. Because of the way MFP does the percentages it won't let me change that one and carbs, so I just eyeball it and TRY and make sure I stay under 70g.

I give myself .7g per pound of body weight. Yes, MFP is way too low.

You're right. They set it rather low. You can change it. Click Goals on your home page and you can change it from there.

MFP uses some ratio that's dictated by the USDA or something for a low fat/high carb diet. The protein goal is ridiculously low IMO. I have manually adjusted mine now a few times because my body's needs change as I progress through my weight loss. I'm now eating less carbs, more fat and protein.

Pick the percentages that make the most sense to you. Most people will tell you it's more about the overall calories than what you actually eat and that's pretty true at first while you still have a lot to lose.

ETA: On the My Home tab, click Goals, then Change Goals, set it to Custom and Continue. You can adjust from there. While you're at it, you may want to up the fiber goal, which should be more like 30 grams, and lower the sodium, which is too high.
  • Thank you everyone - your input has made me feel so much better - as a newbie here i am trying to keep my numbers below what is shown and jeez two hard boiled eggs and one chicken breast later and im like 23 over my protein goal - that got my heart racing thinking jeez what CAN I eat?
