How long in maintenance: I hit my goal weight in the beginning of January 2018, but officially started maintenance in mid-March 2018 after figuring out my calories for a couple of months.

Successes/struggles of the week: My average weight for 2021 was 112.5, the very top of my maintenance range, and almost a pound more than my average weight for 2020 (which was .4 lb higher than 2019). A lot of it was the same struggle as in 2020 in finding the new normal - I'm still currently teleworking, so calorie expenditure has continued to be a bit different from previous years of going into the office and going up and down flights of stairs, standing for some hours while at the office, etc., and I've since adjusted my daily steps goal upwards slowly from 11k, where I was in previous years, to the current 14k. With more takeout meals and meals out, I've also had a lot of high water retention weeks, and have tried to account for it by adding in an additional 100-200 calories on top of my calorie estimates on days that I eat out. This year had several months of being above the top of my range, as I had some additional water weight from a medication that I started on. From the high in July (about a month after I started the new medication), I've managed to slowly get back down into my range again, hitting a low in the low 110's about 1.5 weeks ago. I'm still working on getting my average weight down to the middle of the range, not just a couple of weigh-ins here and there.
This past week has been all over the place, from a low of 110.8 to a high of 113.8 yesterday, thanks to a nice NYE takeout meal of several courses and champagne.

I was away for 3 nights over the New Year – ate all the food (2 5-course dinners and a 7-course dinner on NYE – but avoided snacking and had no alcohol except one champagne cocktail on NYE. Time will tell but I think I have negotiated Christmas and NY with minimal weight gain.

Struggle: Thought I would do better last week. We had leftovers in the house and I made meals out to them. Mostly healthy but I didn't track. I shoveled snow off the driveway 5 times so skipped some of my exercise videos.

Successes/struggles of the week: Pretty consistent average weight from last week to this week, though this week didn't have as wide of a swing - lowest weight was 110.2 on Wednesday, and highest was 112.6 last Sunday (coming off a huge increase a few days before from a high-sodium/calorie/carb day, so still some water retention).2 -

Success of the week: Pulled the bike tube I patched and patched it AGAIN, and now it seems to hold air.
Struggle of the week: It's pretty lame that what I wrote above was the best part of my week.
Edit to add: I guess it's a success that my average weight this week is lower than my average weight for 2021. So there's that. Still on the outer edge of maintenance.

Struggles of the week: Motivation! I gotta get my mojo back. I'm recovering from bronchitis, and outdoor activity (and activity in general) has been triggering coughing attacks. But I'm on the road to recovery and looking to get back outside, back to the slopes, and also back to my indoor workouts.2 -

Successes/struggles of the week: my weekly official weigh in dates are still getting high water weight blips. I’ve recorded on Tuesday for years, but at maintenance it REALLY fluctuates after a fun day or two on the weekend. My weekly lows are 123/124 on Thursday/Fridays so I still feel okay being here.
After this week I’m officially done celebrating “Christmas” (last weekend was our big friend Christmas trip to a lakehouse) so next week I’ll be moving closer to a regular maintenance amount and easing on a weekly deficit to counteract the big trips/celebrations I knew where coming.

Successes/struggles of the week: So happy to be here! I had an accident 18 months ago that led to inactivity for an extended period. I resumed vigorous exercise nine months ago. I’m normally very active with sports/activities and conditioning however a couple of weeks ago an injury associated with the accident resurfaced. Since then I have not been able to exercise beyond indoor walking, etc. I’ll know soon whether I will need additional surgery or my issue can be rehabbed.
During both active and inactive phases while losing my rate of loss exceeded the MFP targeted loss by 1 lb. per week. I’m presently adding calories to find what will maintain my weight. I’d like to improve and expand what I’m eating as well as make it more sustainable.3 -

I'm so sorry for your loss, Lesley. To lose a child! I have not seen any of your previous posts regarding this. Grief is a normal process and thank you for sharing it with us.

@Luannelizabeth, thank you for your kind words. I have shared some of this story over the last two years with this group. To quote my daughter on her facebook page on Jan 1st: “2021 was the year I wish had never happened and it will always be the year we said goodbye to …. (her brother) for the last time.”My son died in March 2021 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in late 2019. He was only 41 years old and he had two small children. Part of the grief I feel now is knowing that those two little ones are now fatherless. His son was only 7 and his daughter only 4 when he died. The little girl will probably not remember him at all and the son will only have hazy memories.
We are now reliving the last few weeks of his illness when he knew that the end was near, the treatment had stopped working and the medical team could only offer palliative care. He was in fact surprisingly well right up to the last few days. Unfortunately, he fell down some outside steps and was taken into hospital – where we couldn’t visit him because of the Covid rules here – and never came home. He died peacefully just before he was due to come home for his last days. His children never saw him seriously ill, he was able to talk to them and facetime and even joke with them right to the last day.
I am lucky to have those two grandchildren and a daughter-in-law who I have grown very fond of over these last three years.4 -

Success of the week: It seems my morning bike commute is a little tiny bit faster. I still won't get to see the sunrise until after about mid-February, although I'll start to see twilight soon. But then in mid-March the sun will rise an hour earlier when we do that stupid thing with the clock, and then I won't see sunrise again on my bike commute until mid-April.
Struggle of the week: Lost a friend that I've known for over 40 years. His wake is today; I did not travel to the other side of the continent, but I did send a bunch of stories.

Struggles of the week: Trending in the WRONG direction. Need to stop snacking and need to MOVE MORE. Last time I wore my fitness tracker was September 21. I put in a new battery this morning and am going to try to get back in the habit of 10K steps per day!2 -

Success of the week: I got all my fruit trees pruned. The sky is just a little bit light (i.e., not completely dark) when I get to the end of my morning bike commute, and the sky was still actually light and pink/orange for my evening commute home! No more dark bike rides at 17:30 for the next nine or ten months!
Struggle of the week: We are having several positive tests for COVID at work every day. Thursday and Friday each had at least six.
