Multiple conditions, need macros

I’m a 67 year old Type 2 diabetic. In the past, I’ve followed a fairly strict keto diet to manage my blood sugar. But in November of 2020, I came down with COVID, and it left me with both pulmonary arterial hypertension and atrial fibrillation. Good times. Obviously using fat as my primary nutrient isn’t going to cut it anymore, but I don’t want to send my glucose levels soaring in my attempts to protect my heart, either. None of my specialists seem to agree on the best course of action, which isn’t surprising, all things considered. Those of you in a similar position, what macros do you recommend?

focus your meals around a lean protein source, and try to swap simple carbs to complex carbs or/and vegatables. this will help protect your blood sugar.0

I'm not aware of your fitness and what you are able to do, but if possible would you consider adding a little bit of activity to your routine, such as walking? It does not have to be a lot or hard going, but perhaps around your block for about 15-30 minutes each day or on the treadmill in your local gym. It's a fact that physical activity reduces the glucose in your blood, resulting in lower blood sugar.

(Based on my own personal experience. I was also a Type 2 diabetic this time last year and in addition to reducing calories I gradually added walking to my routine. I am now 85 pounds lighter at normal BMI, have normal blood sugar and my doctor has stopped prescribing Metformin (yay!). Even now, I walk for about 2 hours a day and keep myself motivated that by doing so I am literally burning glucose from my blood)

Sorry, given your situation you need to be talking to a registered dietitian that has your medical records in front of them, not people on the internet, no matter how well intentioned.
Best of luck.12 -

Nobody here is really qualified for this. We are mostly a bunch of internet randos that are just into nutrition and fitness.5
