sugar is all processed as sugar, be it from a fruit or a teaspoon of high fructose corn syrup.
calories cause weight gain, so if the sugar is adding carbs (therefore adding calories) that is too much for you right now, you will gain weight.
It might be from other things more than simply your sugar intake if you are seeing a gain. I can't say much to advise you, I'm always waaaay over on my sugar count and it is something I am aware of and trying to figure out what to do.0 -
All I know is that I read somewhere that you shouldn't eat the 'starchy' fruits ... eg bananas as for some reason they act against the weight loss even when you keep within your carb limits... but don't quote me on that.0

As long as you aren't going crazy on the fruit just because it's not processed sugar. I am a total fruit bat (I always eat more fruit than I should!) but I don't tend to go nuts on sweets. I find that I am ALWAYS over my sugar intake on MFP. I aim to eat two serves of fruit a day. Serving sizes are obviously different depending on the fruit, so one serve of fruit may be a pear OR orange OR two kiwis OR 250g of strawberries.
I don't drink fruit juice, even freshly squeezed, because I'd so much rather have it in it's whole form! Ultimately, if you're within your two serves of fruit I wouldn't worry about the sugar. Think about all those beautiful vitamins instead!0 -

The post is correct. Many people are under the perception that sugar from fruit is good, however I have read that fructose (fruit sugar) is processed the same as other monosaccharides. Basically, fruits are good for us due to the large number of nutrients found in fruit. Consequently, people eating fruit can be a trade-off.
If you are worried about your sugar intake, but still want fruit. Check sugar content of the different fruits. I am not sure whether this is reliable, but here is a link below.

sugar is sugar, regardless of its source. your body cannot tell the difference in sugar from an apple or sugar from a cookie...it's all processed the same.0
