Greetings and Salutations

Hi everyone. I am a 61 year old morbidly obese woman who has decide to take the bull by the horns and do something about her weight. I wish I could say that I am excited about this journey right now. To be honest, I am a bit overwhelmed with all the information. I can eat this but can't eat that from one source and another source says yes you can eat that but in moderation. Yikes. How do we keep all that in our head? So what I decided was small steps. Enjoy the small successes. So I guess my biggest goal is to be healthier. If the weight comes off, yay! If it does not, I will ask myself if I feel better. Hopefully, that will be a resounding Yes.

One of my favorite songs is from an old Christmas classic 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town' and pretty much sums up my thought process right now.

Put one foot in front of the other
And soon you'll be walking 'cross the floor
Put one foot in front of the other
And soon you'll be walking out the door
You never will get where you're going
If you never get up on your feet

Gradual small steps can definitely get you to good places, with patience and persistence. I think that's a good plan.

I'm 66, been here on MFP since age 59, when I lost from class 1 obese to a healthy weight, and have been maintaining in the healthy range since. If an undisciplined, hedonistic aging hippie-type like me can do it, I'll bet you can do it too.

IMO, small, manageable changes in habits can really add up. I still eat the same range of foods I used to, generally: It was more about rearranging portion sizes, proportions of various foods, and frequencies of some (the more calorie-dense ones) to balance out my true calorie needs with getting good nutrition, enjoying eating, keeping food prep practical, feeling full, and that sort of thing. It was sort of like a fun science fair for grown-ups, to me, with MFP's food diary giving me a way to track and adjust results.

    Wishing you great success here!
