Depends on your diet, goals, lifestyle, ability, fitness level, recovery ability, and exactly what you do at the gym.
  • My calorie goal is 1390 a day. I have gone from doing no exercise to doing 30mins a day from mon-fri and I do hydraulic circuit training at the gym. I do tend to go some days doing hard workouts and others ill just do a casual workout and not work myself too hard.

No, I think five days of 30 minutes is ok, as long as you enjoy it or are pumped about the potential rewards. If it is a huge chore to you, having to go that often will quickly result in burnout. My favorite part of the day is my workout early every morning before I go to work, so going five days for an hour and a half doesn't burn me out (going on 2 years).

    Congrats on the new-found dedication!

And as far as my workout routine - I do 30 minutes of lifting, alternating upper body on one day and lower body on the next day, followed by 30-45 minutes of cardio (usually stairmaster, stationary cycle, elliptical or treadmill).

Everything I read for health (not necessarily weight loss) says women should do at least 30 minutes of cardio a day, so no, I don't think you're overdoing it.

Listen to your body though, and if you're feeling burned out, by all means, cut back of day a day here and there to rest. Otherwise..roll with it, because its a great lifestyle change.
  • Thanks for all the help :) Ill stick to going for my 5 days and have the weekend to rest ! I am enjoying it (a lot more tahn i thought i would) and i cannot wait to lose this weight !! :)

You are definitely not doing too much. I try to take 1 rest day but it is hard because I love how I feel on the days I workout. It's kind of addicting. :) When I first started, my goal was 3 times a week and I hated workout days and looked forward to rest days. Amazing how things change! Good luck!

5 dasys a week for 30 minutes is a great start. You don't want to push so hard you get tired os the great workouts and quit. Burn out is the thing that can happen if you push your body too hard. Have fun and enjoy. Welcome to the club of people hat have decided to take control of their lives. Look forward to great reports on you

it is hard for me to take a day off now. You get to the point that your day is not complete without at least a short run or your eexercise of choice)
  • Sounds good. You may end up switching a few things - days, workout intensity or duration, and calorie consumption - really there's no hard fast rule. If you find yourself burning out, lacking energy, being lethargic or not excited about your lifestyle, try and power up your diet or regime and give it a couple weeks to see if it works for you.

I wasn't doing so hot for a while, but upped my fat intake (from plant sources - think EVOO, nuts, seeds, etc) and it really has been helping with hunger levels, mood, and overall good workouts, not quite so tired all the time.

Stick with it, even if you change something up!!! :)
