Less Alcohol ~ JANUARY 2022 ~ One Day At A Time

Yesterday we met up with a few other couples at a local pub.
Ok NEW favorite non-alcoholic beverage to drink out of a stemmed glass. I know it says grapefruit on it, and that can usually be bitter. But this one IS NOT BITTER. Has just the right amount of fizz and balanced flavor. I am hoping I can find this at other places when out.

Last night was my 6th AF night in a row and it was a Saturday night even. Warm lemon water is comforting in the winter.
@MissMay - that looks good! My favorite kombucha I make is made with green tea and flavored with pink grapefruit.
@Womona and @globalhiker - I hope you both can get back to your healthy selves soon!4 -
My usual goal, 16-20 AF days per month.
My schedule pretty much dictates my AF days.
I will be AF on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for the next few months.
Diary style is how I keep track
Wednesday Jan 19th - 2 drinks. Not planned, but I enjoyed them after crawling home from a very long day.
Thursday Jan 20th - AF - Skating in the morning before work, so AF tonight : - )
Planned drinks Friday and Saturday.
Friday Jan 20th - 2 1/2 drinks (the half was mulled cider with a half shot of spiced rum). Planned drinks Saturday afternoon with a friend.
Saturday Jan 21st - 2 drinks. Planned AF for Sunday
Rolling total: 12AF days out of 22 days.3 -
@globalhiker I used to have the same reaction as you when ANYONE (esp:DH) would say or do something to upset me.
Then I started thinking, ok they already made me mad, and they are still making me mad, by me getting upset with myself in retaliation.
The vicious cycle. 😡
Treating ourselves better at that very momet is important.

WHOA....look who's getting in AF days in a row. Nice job!
Oh the kombucha 😋 watermelon wonder is my go to right now. I also for some odd reason like the one with turmeric in it. Not a fan of ginger anything. I have yet to taste homemade kombucha, yours sounds good.4 -
@dawnbgethealthy your lucky to be able to skate. Such a great calorie burning activity. I love doing skaters lunges in some of my BeachBody workouts.3

10 AF
2 "less"
11 drinking
I didn't post yesterday. Instead I drank and fell asleep on the sofa. Due to that, today has been AF.
I tested Covid positive yesterday, to join my daughter. Confirmed by PCR from work today. I'm fine, just a head cold and mild fever. Nothing that would normally keep me off work, but I'm banished until next Monday.
AF will be a challenge while stuck at home, but I'll still post until the end of the month and stay accountable. I'm actually fairly impressed with myself for the tally above!
Edit: Another small victory... I did fancy a glass of wine with dinner, so opened the AF wine I'd picked up a while ago. It was vile. Smelt like mouldy vinegar and tasted like blackcurrant juice (which I hate!). DH had my glass, and I went to open a proper....
:.... AF beer 🤣. Victory!7 -
Posting for accountability. 30th consecutive day AF.
12/25 - 12/31 AF
1/1 - 1/23 AF
Went back to the frozen tundra today for a bit. Going to be hard not to drink when there isn't much too do here in the winter! I will prevail though. Need to get to the store and get my Cranberry Diet5.6 -

Yes, and such endorphins! Really great for my mental and emotional health as well as physical, but mostly...fun!5 -

@Turtlemummy oh that sucks! Did you say your DH was away at this time? Hoping you have a mild case and bounce back quickly. Good win win on grabbing the AF beer.👍3

With all the NFL play off games this weekend, I am proud to say I remained AF. I may have LESS finger nails though 🤣 because some of those games were pure nail biters.
Ok back to the LESS ALCOHOL GROUP
Here it is the last stretch, the last week, the last eight days. How are you feeling about January thus far.? You've come a long way. Remember it's not a competition, these are strictly personal goals and triumphs for each individual trying to consume less in their life.
Taking a step back for me and doing a completely dry January gives my body a huge break and a nessacery cleanse. Even though I cut back extremely from how I was drinking previous to 5 years ago ( every day and some weeks over 40 drinks within 7 days) my new normal less drinking patteren needed a shake up and time out.

18 days AF/23 days. Planned drinks to go with evening football. It was a very good game.
This week I wish to hit that re-set button and get myself back in line with my goals.
@MissMay the Clausthauler Grapefruit NA beer is one of my favorites and very refreshing.

On the covid front, got to admit I'm relieved to hear from you @womona, and that you are on the mend. 7-8 days is a long time to be down. Hugs to you! And @Turtlemummy , echoing the hopes that your case is asymptomatic. What a huge disruption! Gosh, don't know what to say but it's a bummer. Hugs to you, too. FWIW DD#2, the lone holdout among daughters until now, tested positive last night. She is asymptomatic and was shocked. She was skiing all weekend with roommates at one of their parents' cabins. Had a blast. DD only tested because her roommate did, and that roommate only tested because her sister (lives in same building) tested positive. So they are huddled together in the apartment for 5 days and their conversation centered on how this will not dent their social lives and weekend plans so they are reconciled to it. Hope they stay asymptomatic! They are both boosted, BTW.
On the less alcohol front, I guess I'm doing ok but gosh did I overeat this weekend! I was enjoying my solitude (DH travelling) and found a 1/4 Blums coffee crunch cake in my freezer that I had totally forgotten about. My mom bought it for our birthdays. Well, ladies, I ate that entire 1/4 cake single handedly. Not all at once, but a couple slices a day for 3 days. Poof! cake gone. I have no idea how to log it so I found a MFP entry someone else put in, again no idea how accurate, and whoa! Extremely caloric! Not only did I erase the small deficit from the weekdays, I ended the week in a surplus! It was glorious. Now why is it that I feel none of the shame or regret I would have felt by having extra unplanned alcohol? I split a bottle of wine with myself over Fri-Sat-Sun. 5 glasses wine for the week is a level of consumption I'm ok with at this point in time.
How did we end up at the last week in Jan? Same goals and I'll be solo again this week. DH comes home today, and he has packed a bag (and I have packed a bag of food) for him to shuffle off to my lake cabana for another 4 days or so. Initially we had agreed 5 days apart, but I just read Omicron is >99% cases in the US ATM and average incubation is thought to be 3 days. So I've packed RATs and if he's negative and asymptomatic after 3 or 4 days, I think that's exercising as much caution as reasonable. Honestly, we've spoken on the phone every day and he has been coughing and sniffling on the phone, but he swears he has no symptoms. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯6 -

Sunday Jan 23rd - AF - Skating in the morning before work : - )
Monday Jan 24th - AF - I have a very light day tomorrow, so considered having a drink, but my tummy will be much leaner in the morning if I don't. Counted my "lunges" while skating. 70 per minute and I skated for 60 minutes. 4200 lunges?

My husband is dealing with some physical and mental health issues right now. It is so difficult to watch because he is a very high achiever running a successful growing company, chairing boards, etc. I considered having a drink late this afternoon, but instead decided I need to stay cleared headed and take charge to help him work through this. I am glad I had 30 days under my belt or I may have caved. (He doesn't drink alcohol so I would be drinking alone.)
On the bright side I convinced him he needs to step back from things and take care of himself so we are heading back to AZ on Saturday. The sunshine and warmth goes a long ways in aiding in healing the body, mind and soul.9 -
