Fall is upon us!!! I love this time of year and really enjoy eating soups and chilis on cool days! My husband and I are going to try out the Primal/Paleo lifestyle. I was wondering if anyone has any soups that are Paleo or primal friendly. Any other paleo/primal recipes are welcome too! Thanks in advance!!

I don't have a formal recipe but recently I did a couple of soupy/stew type things as I was craving that "starchy" eating but wasn't going to do grains to get it.

I chopped up brocoli and cauliflower fairly small. The first time I "riced" them in a food processor, the second I just did nickle to quarter size chunks.
I lightly sauteed the veggies with garlic and onion in coconut oil (I like to include a lot of coconut oil for the healthy fat). Added chicken broth (you could use beef, too), covered and let cook on low heat until it the veggies were soft enough for my tastes. Added the chopped cabbage and let finish for about 15 mins.

You can use just as much broth as you want depending on how thin you like it. I also did a little "roux" with coconut flour and coconut oil, mixing thoroughly to blend and THEN adding a little water at a time to it and pouring it in the soup to give it the illusion of thickening and to add even more healthy low carb fiber.

Add whatever chicken or beef or pork you want, any other veggies, too. I like to experiment ; )

Oh! One primal/paleo friend does spagetti sauce as "Italian chili", just eating it straight up. Leftonamelia.com is her blog with some great paleo recipes.
  • Thanks! For the chili do you just leave out the beans?

Everyday Paleo & Primal Blueprint cookbook both have great chili recipes.
I recommend adding a tablespoon of cocoa powder or carob for a super rich taste!
  • Speaking of chili, I am making some right now :)
