Knee bulge thingummy?

I was doing seated leg press the other day, and noticed a quite significant bulging on the outer front of my right knee, which isn't present on my left knee. I've watched the last few days whenever I'm on the leg press and it's there every single time. (I assume it's there for other exercises, but I can see it more clearly on the leg press).
I just wondered if anyone knew what it might be? I'm planning to take it to the doc later in the week, so don't worry, not looking to substitute forum for medical advice. I'm just curious and wondered if anyone recognised what I'm describing.
(I've always had low grade knee pain, which actually improves with exercise. I'm pretty sure whatever this is is related to that.)

I know that my knee caps are slightly displaced, have been since I was a teenager, so when my knees bend, there is a slight bulge to the side. The doc says it's quite common in females, and it is the cause of my knee pain. Nothing really to be done for it, aside from surgey (physical therapy was a waste of time and money), so I'm hoping that losing the weight will ease the pressure.0

Hopefully it's nothing, or just something loose that can be strengthened. Knees are scary.0

If it extends out past your kneecap (like a bump on the end of your tibia) it could be osgood schlatters... but only if it's always ben there (ie since you were a kid). Does it hurt to kneel?0

Thanks for the suggestions. I have hypermobile joints (not over the top hypermobile, but several joints do very weird things!) so I suspect either of those might be possibilities. There's a slight sensation of sideways movement in the joint too. I've just gone to get a couple of knee supports, and will see how I go with those, and get me to a doc.0

As the others have mentioned, it could be osgood schlatters or that the kneecap isn't tracking properly. Either of these or just general going at it with exercise could cause swelling, which anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen (or a stronger prescription one such as Naproxen) would help.
I've suffered from knee pain since I was a child and have only recently finally got a diagnosis - I have severe overpronation in my feet, so I'm very flat footed. I've seen a podiatrist and have some adapted orthotic insoles and have been told to build up the quad muscles above my knee, while stretching out the hamstrings.
I'm also carrying on with the Naproxen and putting icepacks on my knees after any exercise (they are bliss on sore knees and were really cheap on Amazon - they strap around my knees).
It might be worth you getting a free gait analysis at a running shop to check it isn't your feet causing the referred problem.0 -
