So I see threads all the time about what is the best HRM, least expensive, most accurate, etc, etc, etc. But even when I am searching through those, I can't seem to find my question, so here I am, I am going to post yet another topic related to HRM's. Because I have been putting off buying a HRM for the last several months, because I can't find what I am looking for.

I am looking for one with a chest strap, as I know those are more accurate. I don't care about the calories burned. At all. It doesn't even need to have that feature. I don't really care if it does, but it is not necessary. I say this because I use a BodyMediaFit armband all day everyday so I know my daily calorie burn in great detail already so it is a useless feature to me. I just want a HRM because I am getting started with running and want to use it during my runs to stay in the zone I need to be in for training. So it needs to be accurate with heart rate detection. But that is pretty much it. I do not want to spend a ton of money on it, but I also don't want to buy one that is a piece of junk. So here I am asking for suggestions. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a HRM that would be a good fit for my needs?

Thank you in advance. :)

I just ordered mine off of bodytronics.com , polarFT7, comes with a chest strap
  • I got a polar FT4 on amazon, 60 bucks with free shipping, and I adore it. They also have FT7s on amazon cheap FT4s come with a chest strap as well.

The Polar T31 is a good basic HRM. I am a personal trainer and use it for teaching cycling classes. They around $50
  • Polar FT series is the best for just general working out. The FT7 seems to be the most popular. I get my Polars from heartratemonitorsusa.com.
  • I have a SportLine, it has the chest strap and 3 different zones (aerobic, fat burning & health). I love it, have had it for 2 years now & only had to replace the battery on the strap once. You can buy it from Sears and I think Target carries them.
Not sure how much since it was a present.
  • FT4 or FT7 are NOT what you're looking for. You don't care about calories burned. Try a FT1. Go to the Polar website and look under the "Get Active" column. Then find the place you're gonna buy it i.e. Academy, Sports Authority etc. and check which models they carry.

Thanks for the suggestion! Yeah. One of my biggest things is that I don't really care about calories burned. It's mostly just for training purposes. My bodymediafit armband keeps my calorie burn counted for me already! Thanks!
  • I'm only mentioning this to give you perspective.....the Sports Authority in my city carried the FT1, FT4, and FT7. You're welcome!

If you are looking just for heart rate and not for calories burned, etc. Then go to walmart and buy a cheap digital watch with a timer & take your own pulse for 15 seconds and multiply that number by 4. There's your cheapest option.
