Hi everyone! My name is Allison, I'm 26, and 167 pounds. I'm verging on obese, I'm sick all the time, and just plain OUT OF SHAPE! I've gained 40 pounds since me and my husband met three years ago, he's gained 30. We're both upset because we promised ourselves this would never happen (tough promise to make, I know). My asthma is acting up more, his back hurts all the time, my legs hurt for no reason... ugh!
When I was 18, I was the exact weight I am now. I went on the Paleo Diet and got down to 130 pounds. It was the easiest diet I've ever been on. I've been successful with CI/CO diets in the past, losing 5 or 10 pounds on them. I believe in CI/CO to the fullest but I've never been long-term successful with them because I have a difficult time making them lifestyle changes. Paleo was a lifestyle change for me: I walked every day religiously, I got 8 hours of sleep, I got into the mindset of "Grok", our caveman ancestor. While I don't really believe all the stuff Paleo preaches about how our bodies aren't equipped to handle grains, I do know the diet is super easy, filling, satisfactory, and makes me feel great. Of course, I'll be tracking calories too along the way to make sure I'm not overeating. CI/CO is, after all, basic biochemistry.
I'm excited to start this again, with the best dieting partner one could ask for -- my husband! We just had our first Paleo lunch and he looked at it and said, "You're telling me I can eat all this and lose weight?!" Haha! Yes, love, we can!

Hi Allison (...waves to the DH in the background...)!
Welcome to the MFP forums! It has been a few days since you posted this. How's the paleo plan going?1 -
So what exactly is the Paleo lifestyle? My wife and I are going through the same things with gaining weight. I have going back and forth with Paleo and Keto. I just can’t see how having a diet which revolved around fats can be good1

Hi Allison,
if paleo makes you happy then go for it. One note though: paleo also only works through cico. If you overeat on paleo you still gain weight, and if you eat below maintenance you will lose. CICO is just an energy balance, nothing more. And a calorie deficit is always needed to lose weight, regardless of how you do it. All the best1 -
The OP dropped out in May 2021--almost a year ago.0

This is odd! When I saw this pop up and reply I could not see the answer/question from Burandt80 yet, and assumed it was a new comment with just one question.0

Yep--but what I find interesting is that although the OP lost on Paleo before and "loved it" she quit doing it and gained the weight back. It's a diet and lifestyle that's difficult to continue long term and when you go off it and go back to old eating habits you gain the weight back + friends.
Just my opinion, of course, but we don't hear much from long term successful Paleoers. The people that are successful on MFP long term have just learned to correct their portions. They eat cake for birthdays, and pizza on Fridays, so I guess I'll go with that.2
