tip 1 - make sure you are on the right forum. You are over 18?
you are a teacher or an adult student at the school?

Tip 2- situations will come up for all of us where the food is not healthy (by whatever our definition of healthy is) and/or we have to estimate calories.

Without knowing what the options are and what else you would be eating during the day - it is hard to give specific advice

Do the best you can. Focus on eating protein, veggies, fruit and whole grains. Limit the sweets and fatty foods. You can make smarter choices, even if they aren't the ones you would do if you were cooking. Can you do some meal prep on your own? Our dorm had a kitchen that we were allowed to use and we kept sandwich fixings in our rooms.

I've met many people who in their early twenties lost weight for trips or other special occasions and later on regarded the occasions as the start of yo-yo dieting, or of ongoing trouble controlling their weight.

I've met very few people, truth be told no one yet, who lost weight just for an occasion while in their early twenties, and then went on to keep that weight off.

Based on this personal experience, dieting for a special occasion seems to me to be a high cost / low benefit proposal.

Now if you believe that you should tackle some sort of weight issue that you have discovered, and if you're ready and willing to tackle it on an ongoing long-term basis.... that may be a different story....

The choices you make when you look at things on an ongoing long-term basis are not quite the same as when you're dieting for an event! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Weight management can be impacted by what type of food is available because the type of food can affect satiety. But if you successfully control your calories, you WILL control your weight!

This is a great question to be asking your school food service manager.
