Hi Everyone! My name is Nikki and I am a 31 yr old, married 9-1-1 operator and Sheriff's dispatcher. You know what that means? Yes, I spend a lot of time sitting down. Annnnnnd, to add insult to injury, I work A LOT so my butt is firmly planted in a chair for more than 40 hrs a week. Sometimes, I work as much as 80 hrs a week. Sedentary lifestyle much?

I've been trying to lose weight for 12 years. And, it's my fault!! I never learned how to eat. I was a rambunctious, athletic child who could eat whatever I wanted and due to parents divorciing and all that, they all wanted to please me by letting me have whatever treats I wanted. Which was all fine and dandy because I was skinny and had a metabolism like a rocket. However, all it took was a guy cheating on me and saying I wasn't "good enough" for me to think I needed to change myself. I found myself not eating, and making myself throw up. I was a very unhealthy looking 120 lbs now, but I thought I looked good. After my doctor told me that I was killing my father by doing this, I changed my tune and started eating more. When I put on more weight, one of my co-workers told me I was looking good.

Over the next 12 years, I've gained over 100lbs. So, let me tell you ... I would give anything to go back to that moment when I was told I wasn't good enough and "NOT CARE!" Alas, I am left being out of shape and desperately trying to whiddle it away to a more healthy number. A number that would allow me to be more active.

So far, I LOVE my fitness pal. I love it. It makes tracking my calories SO easy. I can't wait to see how this all turns out!!!

Hii!!! I am also a 911 dispatcher! I feel your pain there! My coworker and I recently discussed doing little workouts when things are slow, and on our breaks. We have a set of stairs, every little bit adds up!
This is a great site, I find it extremely motivating. :) good luck on your journey! Feel free to add me if you would like more friends on here!

I'm a 911 dispatcher too!! We do 12 hour shifts and it's so tiring some times. When it's slow I will put in my walking video and walk in place and some times I'll do some yoga positions since we have the space in here. Great to know some more dispatchers!

I love nights!!! That's when all the real chaos happens for us! However, drawback is the never ending fatigue...I have 2 girls who are 1 and 4, and I only sleep 5 days a week :/

Yea, we are going to need a little more info. Is it an aptitude / comprehension exam? How far along are you in the application process...There will most likely be a data entry exam, and depending on each agency...you could be subjected to a polygraph, background investigations, comprehension exams, etc.

Slow nights can be nice, too. We normally slow down decently after 2 am or later. Unless it is a Friday or Saturday...then it can be ugly. We also have a lake...that is gnarly in summer. We have had a lot of drownings this year.

I didn't realize I had so many comments on my post!! I usually do all my tracking from my iphone but at work it's so much easier to log into the computer. I put everything I pack for lunch in my diary and then at work, I edit it and take off what I didn't eat. It's bad I know because I need to be eating my calories but it's hard!!!
I'm so excited that there are other 911 dispatchers on here. It's so hard to diet when you do shift work. Keeping any sort of normal eating routine is impossible. I watch Dr. Oz say stop eating at 8pm or whatever and I am like, "so what if yo udon't get off work til 5am?" And I get bored and hungry and people bring in treats and ... ahhhhh
But at least with my fitness pal, I can see what I ate and what I was supposed to eat and it really keeps me in line.
I'm very excited to see some results and to help others as well!!!
