I think you can eat a little less but if you eat a lot less your metabolism will slow and you will not lose as fast? That is my understanding but there are many people here who know a great deal about nutrition and weight loss who might have a more in depth explanation.0

That's not much info to go on, but if your calorie estimate is correctly figured, the best bet is to eat pretty close to that goal (say within 50 calories or so most day), stick with it for 4-6 weeks (whole menstrual cycle for women to whom that applies) and see what the results are, on average.
I know we all want to lose fat fast, but honestly: Sometimes an easy-to-sustain process that keeps us energetic and happy (not fatigued and feeling deprived) is the faster route to meaningful weight loss, when compared with a bigger calorie cut that leads eventually to backsliding or even giving up entirely.
Personally, I accidentally lost weight too fast when I first started on MFP (because I'm one of the unusual cases for which MFP under-estimates calorie needs). I felt great, energetic, not hungry . . . until *boom*, suddenly I didn't. I got weak and fatigued, then - even though I correctly quickly - it took several weeks to recover back to normal. No one needs that!
Now, that's not going to happen to most people by accident, but undereating goal by quite a lot, and doing it frequently, can have the same result. One day here and there, under goal: No big deal. (The rare, occasional over goal day is NBB, too.) Frequently or routinely under goal: Increased health risk.
Just my opinions, though.1
