Working out & not losing?

I walked about 30min slow pace, while at work ( work in a group home). I am not sure why, but usually i lose .2-.4lbs overnight. But after walking for 30 min saturday, i weighed myself sunday morning before eating anything, and after using the bathroom...it seemed i went up 2lbs? is that normal? I work alot, and I don't have much time to work out, so i just track my calories. I do have a wii fit, but i have zero motivation to work out on it..i am considering getting a zumba game for my kinect though..i love the kinect its so much more easier to set up/start. Any advice is appreciated :]

I need some fitness/weightloss buddies, friend requests are allowed :]

  • Do you weight yourself every single day? Rather do it weekly as you weight fluctuate a lot throughout the day.

    As for the weight, well if your sodium intake was higher for that day then it is probably water retention.
  • Hmm. Yeah, that could be it too. Today, it was difficult to eat the calories that I am allowed per day, mainly because I ate alot of low calorie things for meals and such. I usually try not to eat past 7pm. It's hard for me to only weigh myself weekly because I love seeing that number go down
  • Another thing to consider is the sodium level that can make your body retain water & therefore will make you gain a few. There are some low cal foods that are high in sodium. Also I read here somewhere that its normal to gain weight after a workout expecially if you do it first time because our muscles sores since its not used to do it. But eventually everything will be back to normal.

    Be honest when you got on the scale this morning, how did it make you feel seeing you have gained? Probably depressed, but in reality you did not but feeling bad about it might trigger something like binge eating or perhaps lose sight of your goals.

    Give it a week and see how it goes, if you gained weight simply send me a message and we can work through this.

    Firstly, well done on your loss so far :-).

    Once you start exercising, your motivation to exercise will almost certainly increase. It's just a matter of getting started. Walking is great but I don't think it quite gets the heart rate up high enough (unless you walk very fast). Zumba does seem fun (I'm still trying to get my head around the moves so not doing it properly yet) but also very hard work and taxing on the muscles. Definitely get into it but maybe, just to ease yourself into cardio, I'd recommend this video which I found at my local video store http://www.alibris.com/search/movies/upc/881573000082 I didn't find it to be very taxing at all as I had been doing some running in the months leading up to trying it and would have been disappointed if I had actually bought it but for someone who's fitness is lower, it could be just the thing. After using it a few times, I realised I could run through all the moves at my own pace (a bit quicker) and burn a bit more energy so even I ended up making it work for me.

    The other two things you could do are bike ride to work and get a heart rate monitor. I found having a hrm which tells me calories burnt was the ultimate motivator (that and being hungry and wanting to earn some more calories.) Bike riding for 20 minutes will burn about 150 calories (for me anyway), making that trip round knocks out a good 300, all just to get where I am going (and I am a good kind of distance from the city, my typical destination, where the 20 minute bike ride strongly holds it's own against the 10 minute drive and hassle of parking).

    PS Don't bother about that scale too much, I agree the numbers down is a good feeling but it takes time. By all accounts, if you want to see a difference in your shape, when you feel up to it, try Jillian Michael's '30 day shred'.

    Thanks for the advice/tips. I would bike to work, but i live 17 miles from work, and it would be nearly impossible for me to do so. I do have the 30 day shred dvd, but i can never get past the 1st part of it..its tough. But I think i'll be working up to get past that part though.

    When i stepped on the scale yesterday, i was optimistic..i thought it could have been a couple things..like water weight, so i went on with my day, had breakfast, got ready for work and decided to step on again, and i was back where i should have been. I stepped on it again this morning ( i know, i know) and down another lb! yes! back where i was 2weeks ago.
