I have been having a tough time for the past 5 months. Lost my mom unexpectedly and I saw it happen. I keep having flashbacks. I want to get healthy but sometimes I just feel I guess disengaged from society at times. I want to compete one day in MMA but I guess my motivation has been derailed.
Any weight loss tips or life tips in general would help. Thanks

My dad was a type II diabetic and died of a widow maker at 61. My sister and I had to identify the body and it was horrible. He never really bothered to take care of himself and always passed everything off as no big deal. I started training for my first 1/2 century about a month after his passing and road my first 1/2 century 4.5 months later with the Tour de Cure for Diabetes in his honor and also raised around $5K for the cause.
For me it was extra motivation...not just riding for the cause, but also doing things I should be doing to protect my own health and not go down the same path as my dad. It is what he would have wanted...he would have wanted for me to take care of myself. Not to mention, at the time I was 39 with a two year old and a 6 mo old...61 didn't seem all that far off to me and the thought of passing early in life and leaving my two kids behind was pretty much a non-starter.4 -
OP, that really sounds like a hard time. Hugs to you. Is there a way you can access one or two therapy sessions? I don’t mean to suggest everything can be resolved in one or two sessions, but some is better than none. Sometimes just getting help reframing HOW to think about something is super helpful and lets you process on your own. You are dealing with a lot.
About the weight loss part, two thoughts:
1) can you frame your healthy eating and exercise regimen as self care you need right now to get your mojo back? Sleep is huge too for depression and hunger hormones.
2) small steps done faithfully always make a bigger change over time than a big Herculean effort that fizzles out. Make it easy on yourself to set yourself up for success.
Take care!! :flowerforyou:
