there are a few words, most of which are not allowed on here, but one is now darlin'.... Bleck! It makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit every time I see or hear it. That is all. :flowerforyou:

Oh dear, I say that word so much that my 2 year old calls me darlin. I only call my family and friends it, not strangers.

That's a typical sentence ending if you live in the UK.

I feel as though there is more to this than I know. However, I can say with all honesty that I know nothing of value whatsoever.

    So...

    ...carry on

Guilty! I'll try to reign it in.

Fair warning I also use sugar, sweetheart, kiddo and tiger. Never in an attempt to be patronizing or demeaning. I just like nicknames.

I was just thinking that - definitely can't get a builder or a mechanic without hearing that, part of the Oxford dictionary here!

Making fun of who? I think the Op was merely just stating her dislike for certain words.

Me, too. It's a southern thang.

I do agree, though, that I don't like to be called "hun".... you can call me "hon" all you want to, 'cause that's just short for "honey." But "hun" is... what... I dunno, but Atilla the Hun is the only thing that comes to my mind....

i've recently devleoped the awful, awful habit flinging sugary sweet petnames at people i don't even know. if you encounter me at some point in your life, you will most likely be called darlin', honey, sweetie, luv, etc.

and i know i sound like a truck stop waitress. at least i don't dress like one!

^^^^ So This^^^^ Um, Errr, You Know.

This drives me crazy, especially when people don't realize they do it with every sentence. Should be a grammar law preventing this.
