4 months postpartum

Hi all, looking for some advice. I’m currently 4 months postpartum and have only lost about 20 lbs. this weight was lost without trying. I honestly have no weighed myself in a few months and I finally did this morning. I was disgusted. I’m still wearing maternity jeans. I can’t fit into any of my old clothes. It’s depressing. Am I being too hard on myself? I’m a first time mom and it’s definitely been hard trying to manage my diet and take care of baby.

Give yourself space for your body to heal. And then refuse to spin on it mentally but chose to start doing instead:manage portions primarily. If you’re nursing you have to be careful with how much you cut calories bc it can reduce your supply (I never could do less than 1700). But if you’re not nursing you can set your goal to a little less (1500?)-and possibly feel slightly more successful. Babies are hard on the body-carrying, delivering and then caring for them. But it’s always good to make sure mama is well cared for too. For me it was easiest, to just know in my head I was doing what I could every day by counting calories and the weight will
Come off at its own rate. It kept me from wanting to binge or exercise or restrict anything.

Totally normal! It usually takes about a year for your body to recover from pregnancy/childbirth (including restocking your vitamins, minerals, etc.) A lot of the weight loss after childbirth, if you aren’t on some crazy extreme exercise/diet plan (which is not recommended and can be especially dangerous while recovering!), has both hereditary and hormonal things at play, that have little to do with your diet or exercise at all.

I’m also 4 months postpartum. I have 7 pounds left and what has been working for me (breastfeeding btw) is strength training, walking everyday(super good for baby) yoga and Pilates. I aim for 30-40 mins workout plus getting steps in. a high protein and healthy fat diet with healthy carbs depending if I’m strength training. So lean meats like chicken turkey. I do salmon and cod as well. My fats are olive oil, coconut oil, avacado, natural nut butters. Leafy greens are a must. Carbs are sweet potatoes, brown rice pasta or brown rice, quinoa or bulgur and whole grain bread. You need to get in the calories if your breastfeeding because you can’t outsmart your body. It will store fat so baby always has a food source. Just stick to what I wrote and you will see a dramatic difference. Get yourself some apple cider vinegar for the morning shot.
