edited October 2024 in Introduce Yourself
Hello MFP, hope everyone is having a good start to their week. Wanted to take a brief moment and introduce myself. Started on my journey to get healthy & fit in March 2010 and have been educating myself on food, nutrition & fitness ever since. At that time I joined a gym which was the 1st time I've done so in my life. Since then I've learned quite a bit and have made so many changes not only physically but mentally as well. Thus the subject line of this thread. As of 9/2011 I'm 190lbs 5'7 and am working towards a healthy BMI and a weight of about 170-175 by March 2012, if not sooner.

We are all a product of our experiences and genetics which in my case totally SUCK. My family history is plagued with high-blood pressure, diabetes and overall obesity. There's QUITE a bit of negativity within my family as well so that certainly doesn't help. With being a Latin Man there's negatives to our diets and such while on a positive note we are quite intense and passionate. I've decided to use the later to help me not follow the same path of my loved ones and instead motivate THEM!

Wanted to thank those of you who've been supportive on here and I look forward to returning that support as well.

You can do this. It's definitely a challenge but keep your head up and stay focused on your goals. I am PROOF that despite genetics you can absolutely do it AND enjoy the journey as well. MFP friends are wonderful when you are "in the clutch". Be well!!! ;)
  • I totally sympathise - the female line in my family is also rampant with overweight, diabetes, depression and everything else that goes along with those.......I REFUSE to follow that path any longer and want to give you a huge thumbs up for not toeing the line with regard to what your environment and family deems to be appropriate. Personally, I have a lot more weight to lose than you do, and my family are supportive so it's the genetic challenge and my own personal demons that I face, more than a social one..... Really sincerely wishing you every success on this journey of ours. If your head can take you where your heart wants to be, you're half way there already.

Greatly appreciate your comment and support, truly means alot. We're on the right path now and forums/tools such as this help keep us focused and to make our goal a reality. Wish you all the success and ensure to celebrate the little things but ensure it's in moderation, which we can all improve on....

Thanks for the support, looking to take the clutch of this manual journey and make it automatic with time.
