so I ordered an FT1polar HRM ot it today but realized it doesn't count calories.
Do I need one that counts calories or can I figure it out by the heart rate?

Sorry new to the HRM thing

I would spend the extra to get the one that counts calories...that is what I have and can't imagine having to figure it out!

this is a very cool website that you can tell the average heart rate that your Polar gives you, and it will use the same math formula that the HRM's use. For VO2max, it is suggested that you enter 35, this is an average.

    hope this helps!

I say it's worth spending the extra to get one that counts calories. I got a New Balance N4 at Target and I love it (and it counts calories)!

FT4 and up count calories. If it's possible to return or exchange I'd recommend it. That's the most accurate way to get a calorie count. Using the average gives you an average.

Counting calories isn't a need. I have the FT1 and love it. What I do is go here:

It's an extra couple of seconds, but it saved me some $$$.
