Why is this so unbelievable to people?

So many people I work with, and talk to on a daily basis simply cannot believe that I do not like, OR watch TV's or Movies. The only time I ever watch the tube is during a national emergency, or major event like the superbowl. I do not own a set of my own, and never plan on getting one or cable tv for that matter either.

The last movie I picked out and watched the entire length through was in 2008 when I bought Aliens Vs. Predator - Requiem....since then I have watched a single movie.

Seriously, why is it that hard to believe?

No idea, to be honest. I find most telly these days to be droll and repetitive. You probably don't have a lot of empty time to try to fill.

Lol its just the opposite. I do work full time, however since I am a somewhat solitary person, I do have a great deal of free time on my hands that I usually fill up with weight-lifting, botany, and workshoping (building stuff).

Well, because you are like one in probably 100 million. Even the people I know who detest TV still enjoy watching movies or documentaries.

That being said, I think it's great. You aren't missing much and are surely doing something better with your time.

P.S. My parents raised me and my three siblings with no television sets in the house whatsoever. Everyone thought it was the weirdest thing they had ever heard of, but I'm glad of it.
  • LOL! Just unplugged my television today. :)

I don't watch TV either but I use it for workout DVD's---LOL. Seriously though---there is nothing interesting on TV. I would rather be outside living my life than watching a pretend version of someone else living theirs. I read somewhere that the average child watches like 4 or 5 hours of TV a day. No wonder childhood obesity is such a big issue. Get off your butts people and move! Quit watching that stupid black box.

I own a tv but don't have cable and never got one of those adapter antenna thingys so I don't have tv...about 3 years ago I got to a point where I couldn't afford cable and it was shut off on me and now that I've gone 3 years without it I don't see the point in paying that much money for it. People are always shocked though when I tell them I don't have television at home. Even people I have worked with for years will say to me "Have you seen the commercial for....." or something like that and I just look at them until they realize who they are asking =)

Shrug, you just get fulfillment from doing things instead of watching others do things. You know how people are, incapable of understanding other ways of doing things/spending time that is unusual to them. They should try to take a lesson from you!

I don't think you are crazy. But what about news, politics and current events? Don't you want to know what is happening in the world?

You're so cute! Television news has nothing to do with "what's going on in the world."

I mean at this day in age, a Computer can be a tv.

Anyways, I love movies and TV shows, and I cannot really fathom not watching either, so I totally understand to be honest

There aren't many of us out there. I don't even OWN a TV, have never purchased one. Three times in my life people have been so astonished that I don't have one that they have given me their old TV when they upgraded because they think perhaps I'm just cutting finances. The last one I owned sat in a closet unplugged for over a year before I finally FreeCycled it.

I gave up watching TV when I was 23. I don't 'hate' TV - it just doesn't have a place in my life. If I'm at someone's house, I'll watch shows, but I've been known to turn off the TV in the break room if I'm alone. What's funny is - I work in the telecommunications industry. I own an iPhone and iPad. I drive a car. I ride a motorcycle. Yet despite these evidences of technology in my life, I've even had people ask me, kind of timidly and unsure, "Are you a Quaker?".

I'm sorely tempted to say yes one day.
