Quicksand

The pitfalls we find in our fitness journey are very much like quicksand. We snack a lttle here, we add an extra cheat day there...skip an excercise because we are tired, and soon enough we realize that we are headed down the same path that got us out of shape. I'm there. The more I've trained others throughout my 154 lb weight loss, and the more I've preached balanced moderation, the more I've allowed myself to excuse away the bulk that has been growing. Yes, a lot of it is bulk muscle that I've been building, but much is just from cheating with my nutrition. I still don't eat junk food, but I find myself gorging even on the healthy food while finding excuses as to why today probably isn't the best day to do the hard workout. I'm not ashamed, embarrased or apathetic...I'm angry. I'm trying to remember that this isn't a game. It's life. A healthy life of being the father that I need to be, the husband that I want to be and the friend that I have the potential to become. Are you there too? We need each other.

Sounds like you are catching it early. I've backslid twice in the last 4 1/2 years since I gained weight after quitting smoking. It's been easier to stay on track this time, though once I hit my goal, I'm going to have to be very careful to not slack off.
You can do it and so can I.0 -
I'm there too...mad at myself...REALLY mad at myself. BUT, I gotta try to keep "plugging along". I have to...I don't want to be unhealthy for the rest of my life.0

Thanks for sharing...needed to hear this. Learning how to keep my health focus when life gets REALLY heavy. Your words helped me remember why I'm doing all this in the first place.0

I needed to hear this today! Thank you for being brave and admitting to what is happening. I was just sitting here thinking that I had 101 excuses as to why I could not ride my stationary bike today (or the last few days) but the fact is that we could always come up with reasons not to do what we need to do to improve our health. There will always be a birthday or holiday or celebration that we could just "enjoy" but I am with you, starting today I am back to my program (completely). Good luck and you can definetly to it!0

Ever thought of applying the same mindset to fitness than you would have building a career? You went to school daily and did your homework in order for you to get a good job, why not go to gym daily and exercise to get a better physique?,,,,it boils down to priority and impact on life, you take your job much more seriously than your health as it would have a direct impact on your way of living.
There is a much better chance that you would wake up 4am in the morning to go work than going to the gym.

Ugh...I can so relate. Thanks for putting into words what I couldn't articulate to myself. Love your quote, "This isn't a game. It's life." Wrote that one down!0

Thanks for the reminder. I actually do go to the gym 5 days a week at 4:30 in the morning. Problem has been the focus. I've focused a lot on bodybuilding and less on the lean muscle. Bulk feels like bulk to me - whether it's muscle or fat. Need to get back to the regiment that so many think is extreme. For me, I like extreme - as long as it is nutritiously sound.
Again, I appreciate the time you took to respond.0
