Jekyll and Fat Chick

I'm frustrated today, I have recently been rereading (read it before) Jekyll and Hyde. The part that sticks with me is this other uncontrollable being that Jekyll turns into that has no remorse and does just exactly what he likes to do immoral or not. Luckily my case is not as such, however, My Hyde is a fat chick, she lets me go all day eating really well.........total control. Then BAM between 8pm and 10pm I turn into this I'll call her Ms. Hyde. This gluttonous woman with no remorse or thought of the consequences. She can be uncontrollable. I feel like I have no control over my brain and she is so convincing......you want this, this little bit won't hurt, you'll make up for it tomorrow, you've lost so much already and you look good, why not just stop here. I wake up the next morning, stuffed, in a haze with only a blurry memory of the night before........thinking oh gosh now I have to make up for all that food she ate last night. If I can only figure out how to separate her from myself........anybody have an elixir?

I call that my inner-jabba on facebook. For example, this morning inner-jabba was red faced and throwing a tantrum because I made him run four miles and then fed him a whey shake. He was totally indignant... wanting Krispy Kremes instead. I asked him why he was crying for... he still had soccer tonight to look forward to
I find beating him with a wooden stick works well.0 -
I have a tendency to get "snacky" at night. It's after I've done the dishes and making my daughters lunch. I want to snitch a goldfish, a piece of turkey, etc. I usually now have 2 cups of hot tea to keep my hands busy and to be perfectly honest, I go upstairs to watch TV in bed at 9 p.m. just so I'm not downstairs near the kitchen. It works!!! It also gets me to bed early and up earlier with more energy.0

A couple of things, first when you see Ms Hyde coming, quickly get an 8-12 oz glass of water, drink and and walk away (literally) for 10 minutes, that should subdue the beast. If that doesn't help, I find writing down your goals and posting them throughout the house so you can remind yourself can also help. Third, get rid of the bad food out of the house. Fourth, find low calories things that can please the tummy. For example, my desert is 2 scoops of cool whip, 1 sugar free jello and 1 sugar free pudding. It's pretty filling and only 100 calories. It fixes my sweet tooth a lot.0 -
Is there anything else you can do in that time?? For me it's often about distraction and keeping busy. Clean the bathroom?? LOL Can't eat while you're doing that Or just plain BRUSH YOUR TEETH and say "that's it. I'm done." I do that sometimes. I'll really want to send dh for ice cream or something and once I brush my teeth the craving is gone!? Oh, or just don't have the stuff around??? Just some thoughts. I know it's hard but you can overcome it. Love the analogy by the way!0

Mine is Mindy, my evil ego. That chick has problems that even I don't know how to deal with. LOL0

Are there specific foods that the fat chick wants? I would say don't keep them in the house.
I was feeling munchy last night, but since I control what kinds of snacky foods are in the house, I have to actually go to the store to get the things my munchy side wants. And since that requires putting on street clothes, getting in my car, etc., I never bother.
It also helps me to just go lay in bed and watch TV (or work out if that's possible to do) after a certain time -- after I've eaten my planned food. I get comfy and the last thing I want to do is go to the kitchen to get food.0 -
I can totally relate! What are you doing between 8 and 10 pm? I've read that watching television or messing around on the computer contributes to snacking. I think it is true for me. Maybe make a cup of tea if you are watching television....camomile tea will help you fall asleep.0

MFP has helped me a lot - because I feel accountability to my friends on here. I guess that if I eat it, I know I have to write it down - and hopefully someone will say "why are you eating all that shizt??"
My evil sidekick comes out when I've been drinking - I stand grazing at the fridge.....lunchmeat, string cheese, scoop of cold leftovers......it's all fair game.0 -
Hahah, I feel the same way sometimes. Either keep yourself busy at the gym longer, or get rid of all of your "bad snacks" in the fridge? Sometimes only having healthy food around deters me from snacking on anything too late.0

I really rely on 100 calorie packs.
I can't live my life without cookies. Having them properly portioned really helps me. I don't feel like I'm depriving myself, but I don't feel like I went and worked out for nothing!0 -
Hey lady....I totally get a kick out of your comparison, thank you because it has made me laugh this overcast morning! I find several things help me deal with Hyde. At night when Hyde take over and Jekyl screams for help I honestly think about feeling confident and sexy in case my hubbie's hands start to wander. One of my biggest motivators for weight loss is not feeling ashamed of my bod and lets face it things you eat that make you feel bad, just plain make you feel bad. I also brush my teeth, like a previous post said. I read somewhere that if you embrace the feeling of hunger as a positive feeling, a feeling of progress, then it becomes an enjoyment like a signal of your dedication. I know this sounds like bs but I have totally become appreciative of my hunger signals and I feel kind of energized by them. It is all your choice of outlook at the challanges.........Anyway, make love not cookies and your relationship will grow instead of your guilt. That is all I got LOL.0
