Almost every day I go over on my suggested protein amount. Yesterday, I had egg whites for breakfast, some soy nuggets for lunch and a piece of tilapia for dinner, and I went 11 g over on my suggested protein amount!!! Is this a bad thing? Should I not be paying attention to this number?
Any input would be appreciated.

if you're using the default numbers that MFP gives you, they set protein pretty low. You should be fine going over by a few. 11g is fine most likely. I think MFP gives 15%, but you can safely up it to 20 or 25% without problem.0

I set my goal a little higher (25-30) and I NEVER hit it!0

Excess protein isn't good, because it can leech calcium from your bones, and it's not easy for the body to pass. Sometimes you make trade offs - like I'm drinking Diet Coke now, which has saccharine, which has been connected to cancer.
11g over 15% isn't excess, calcium leeching happens when the ph in the body lowers, and that requires a long period of ketosis before it even starts to be and issue, and if you keep enough calcium coming in from food, then it's not an issue anyway
See this study, take particular note of the part where they gave calcium suppliments to all groups and those with higher then average protein intake actually had bone mass increase.

The truth about protien is that its very hard for the kidneys to process. if you eat excesize amounts upwards of 120g+ a day, then you better be drinking a LARGE amonuts of water to counter act and dilute the solution before it gets to your Kidneys...
I will look for a medical explanation of why its hard on your Kidneys. please before you go crazy with protien... upping it helps and is perfectly OK, and AS SHboss said, 11g over MFP's numbers is OK, just realize that if you are not lifting for Bulk or power then if you go over 90g you want to watch the intake to water ratio...

Good Rule of Thumb:
Reserch suggests an active adult needs .8 to 1.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight.
Your weight in lbs. divided by 2.2 = your weight in kilograms
your weight in kilograms multiplied by .8 = protein requirement per day
