No weight loss yet... Help!

I have been at it hard core for over 2 weeks and haven't lost a pound. I'm down 5 1/2 inches though. I am proud of that and do feel better about myself... I know it can take time to see the scale change And I'm not a slave to it, but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Any advise???

  • 5-1/2 inches!! That's absolutely amazing for 2 weeks. I say dump the scale and keep the measuring tape. At the end of the day your weight doesn't matter, it's how you look and feel. You're clearing doing something right. Whatever you're doing, keep at it! The numbers will drop but inches are the most important.
  • THE SCALE IS NOT THE BEST MEASUREMENT OF YOUR WEIGHTLOSS SUCCESS. woops, anyhow take your measurements and go off from that. you most likely are building muscle as you lose inches.

sounds like you're burning fat and building muscle!
  • Muscle my friend. Your fat is turning in to muscle. You may be the same weight, but sometimes, losing inches is better than weight. Fat is disproportional and occupies more space. Muscle on the other hand, is not. It weights more, but it occupies less space. You are doing great. Stay positive. The weight will come off. Keep a balanced diet, drink plenty of fluids, stay positive and you'll see that things will start to melt off. Sometimes, your body takes a while to let go of the insulation - fat - and all it takes is a few more weeks. If you started just recently, give your body time to adjust to the changes. Just be patient and I'll be rooting for you!
  • hello there remember water and fat weight weigh less then muscle weight so you may be losing fat and building muscle try not to always take the number on the scale as set in gold. Try using pictures and clothes sizes and they way they fit.

We have ALL experienced this. Stick with it, the pounds will come off. Sometimes it takes a few weeks then 3 or 4 come off all at once. Odd but that's how it works.

    Good Luck.

I was there last week...I had 3 wks of going at it hard and the scale had the nerve to go up a pound!!!! I finally had to just put my scale away and I have decided that I am going to just stick to what I am doing and continue to challenge my self to burn more calories and eat more veggies...whenever the scale decides to join me---great!

I experienced this for 3 weeks when i started MFP....I felt so discouraged and I was staying true to my calorie count and work outs. The scale actually increased at one point and I wanted to cry!

Luckily with the encouragment of some great MFP friends I had made along the way I kept working Hard!! I didn't have a significant weight loss on the scales but i started getting compliments from my friends and co-workers about looking slimmer. I was losing inches! I just started seeing the scale move but right now it doesn't matter...I feel good, my pants fit better and my work outs are becoming easier to handle because I'm getting in better physical shape.

The weight will eventually come off TAKE IT FROM ME!! I FREAKED OUT ABOUT THIS TOO!!! :-))) STAY WITH IT~~~~~

It appears everyone has just about covered this topic. I am in a similar boat sticking to my calories like no tomorrow and to be honest I was getting a little disappointed. I am glad you posted this, the feedback has also encouraged me. Hang in there, hard work always pays off in the end. I need to get my measurements in. :drinker: :flowerforyou:

Dr. Oz had a great show on yesterday about belly fat, not that you have any :flowerforyou: but he gave a few tips like - using flaxseed oil, eating your carbs earlier in the day and tracking progress via measurements.
  • Thank u all for the great advice and encouragement! It's much appreciated!!!

That is amazing that you're losing inches!!

Water weight can really mess up that number on the scale... It could be partly because you've started to become more active and your muscles are retaining water during the natural repair process. It could be party because your sodium levels are too high (add sodium to your food diary if it's not already there) and you're not drinking enough water to help flush the extra out of your system.

It could be that you're not eating your exercise calories. Hard to tell without being able to view your diary.

ETA: Could be that your scale is broken too. :)
