I had surgery not too long ago on my knee and I'm still in recovery. I love to walk/job, but I just can't yet. I need some type of exercises that will strenthen my knee and my quad muscles....they are still not developed right. I currently have a stationary bike at home and try to use that as much as possible. Any suggestions would be great! thanks. OH and feel free to friend me. I need more friend support! THANKS!!!

do more strength that's core and arms, and speed punching! If you can stand around and bend your knees lightly, you can do basic bob-and-weave and you can get pretty tired throwing punches... First thought! Otherwise, go with your physical therapist's recommendations for healing and strengthening those muscles and joints and keep up the cycling as you're able... If you can swim, I imagine this would be recommended, too...

The stationary bike is a good start. I would search youtube for ideas on workouts for recovering patients of your type of knee surgery. Best however would be to find a pool where you could swim. This would be your best bet, but pools are often not available or expensive.
    Good luck!

Hello! Last year I injured my left knee in November and my right knee in May so I know where your coming from! Of course mine is from all the weight I have carried, no meniscus tear just muscular and tendons. I LOVED going to pool therapy because it allowed me to strenthen my legs and knees with out over extending too soon! I also do a recumbant bike for short periods of time. I am still healing and have to watch what I do. Is this an option for you??
I love your wedding photo! If you want you can p.m. me and add me as a friend. God bless! Lynne

Hi, I have problems with my knees and started swimming most days 3 weeks ago, They seem to be a lot better since I started this so hoping its the swimming and not just coincidence as they can be better depending on the weather. I was also told by my gp that the cross trainer is good as your knees are in alignment and you are not putting any pressure on them like you do with jogging. Good luck , Susan

Anyone tried Zumba? Specifically Zumba Gold- designed for those with injury or problematic joints, (knees, hips, ect)

SWIMMING! super low impact and you can do a variety of different water aerobics to jazz it up instead of just doing laps... and believe me if you add Water weights for resistance you can get quite a work out. Try the Elliptical also since it is low impact as well... Can you stand on your knee? Skating might also be a fun work out for you.
  • it seems I will need to find a pool somewhere. I'm going to check out the local YMCA for rates. And I never even thought of ZUMBA GOLD. I've always wanted to try Zumba.....

    thanks everyone for the feedback!!!!

I don't know what type of knee surgery your are recovering from, but I had ACL reconstructive surgery on my right knee a couple years ago. I am a ballroom dancer so my doctor had me in rehab from day one and increased my exercises throughout the 13 months that it took to heal completely from this type of knee surgery. One of the exercises I did faithfully was stationary bike and walking. I also did leg lifts while sitting anywhere and everywhere. Do you work with a physical therapist? You really want to make sure you are doing the correct rehab for your particular knee issue....so I would advise you to check with your doctor. Feel free to add me if you like.....I would be happy to support you.

How about trying an Aqua Zumba class? Also crazy fun, super low impact also- but high intensity, you will burn a ton of calories and you don't notice till next day when every muscle hurts just to move, (a good sore). Lots of our Gold participants do Aqua to mix up and challenge themselves :)

The best part about Aqua if you don't feel 100% coordinated to dancing- no one can see your feet:)
